<p>
	Phase three of the sprawling development will feature 189 new homes across 2 blocks, one of which will be 10 storeys high and the other 12 storeys.
</p>

<p>
	The planned phase which has been named 'Railings', will be built on the opposite side on the northern side of the locks, opposite the 275 home first 'phase one',  with work expected to start in Spring and be completed in 2024.
</p>

<p>
	Upon completion the neighbourhood will provide up 2,215 new homes and 900,000sq ft of commercial space for offices, hotels, shops and restaurants.
</p>

<p>
	Planning consent for the project was gained 12 months ago.
</p>

<p>
	Overall, the site has a gross development value of more than £700 million and is expected to create more than 7,000 jobs within the area.
</p>

<p>
	Initially it was expected that China backed BCEGI would be replaced for this final phase of development by Leads based contactor GMI Construction who were the forerunners for the contract. This apparently is no longer the case.

<p>
	A £1.5m revamp of the headquarters of Master Builders Solutions UK to accommodate an expanding workforce has been completed.
</p>

<p>
	Salford-based MC Construction was the main contractor for the project. Gardiner &amp; Theobald was the project manager and provided design and cost services to Master Builders Solutions UK. The architect was Fletcher Rae.
</p>

<p>
	Master Builders Solutions UK, which is based in Swinton, Greater Manchester, manufactures and distributes construction chemicals used in new-build, maintenance, repair and renovation schemes. Its products include concrete admixtures and solutions for underground construction, waterproofing, sealants, flooring and grouts.
</p>

<p>
	The business, which also has operations in Redditch and Rochester, was part of BASF before it was sold to an affiliate of global private equity firm Lone Star in 2020.
</p>

<p>
	Following the deal, space was required at Swinton for sales and administrative staff transferring from offices in Cheadle, as well as a number of new recruits.
</p>

<p>
	To accommodate them, the site’s warehouse has been reconfigured.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	MC Construction carried out demolition and strip-out works, installed foundations and then reconfigured the building to create a reception area, new offices on the ground floor and a new mezzanine floor, and to expand the company’s concrete admixture development laboratory to enable it to keep pace with growing demand. The lab is used for product development and customer trials.
</p>

<p>
	External works carried out as part of the project included the installation of new charging points for electric cars. The scheme was completed in 26 weeks in a live working environment. A total of 40 staff are now based at the site.
</p>

<p>
	Geoff Birchall, head of operations at Master Builders Solutions UK, said: “With the requirement to create additional office space for existing staff and new recruits, we wanted to choose a local partner that we could trust, not only with the building aspect but also with ongoing support and maintenance.
</p>

<p>
	“An extensive procurement process led us to MC Construction, whom we appointed based on their local expertise and quality. During the build, we were happy with how the project was planned and managed. The result is excellent and our employees are delighted with the new facilities.”

<p>
	Smart glasses enhance end-to-end production line walks in digital transformation workshop (DTW) process
</p>

<p>
	Made Smarter’s technology adoption programme is deploying smart glasses to SME manufacturers in Salford to virtually fast track their digital adoption strategies and navigate Covid-19 restrictions.
</p>

<p>
	The wearable device enables technology specialists from Made Smarter to perform virtual end to end production line walks of factories with a business as part of the digital transformation workshop (DTW) process.
</p>

<p>
	These fully-funded, bespoke workshops are led by technology advisers who cut through the jargon to provide impartial advice to help a business identify the most effective technologies to overcome their operational challenges.
</p>

<p>
	The virtual visit allows advisers to dial in to a conference call and watch each manufacturing operation being performed in order. This enables discussions around inputs, outputs, process control, and quality performance in order to provide a clear picture of each businesses’ bespoke operation.
</p>

<p>
	The introduction of smart glasses has enabled Made Smarter to overcome access restrictions and limitations caused by the pandemic to get the vital insights needed to support the manufacturer’s digital transformation. It also gives manufacturers a valuable opportunity to test how this emerging technology could be used in their business.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Will Kinghorn, Industrial Digital Technology Advisor for Made Smarter, said:</strong>
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-gramm="false" data-ipsquote="">
	<div class="ipsQuote_citation">

	</div>

	<div class="ipsQuote_contents ipsClearfix" data-gramm="false">
		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			“In the wake of the pandemic we redesigned our digital transformation workshops to continue delivery when in-person visits were not possible.
		</p>

		<p>
			“This approach has helped 141 manufacturers in the region engage in a streamlined process designed to accelerate manufacturing growth by identifying digital tools and technologies that can maximise operational processes.
		</p>

		<p>
			“In that same spirit of innovation, as we tread a cautious roadmap out of lockdown, and to minimise the spread of the virus, we have developed virtual line walks.
		</p>

		<p>
			“When it comes to how things are made there is no substitute for seeing it for yourself, but the use of smart glasses is a fantastic alternative. They are specifically designed to keep both your hands free, letting the wearer demonstrate how things work, what products look like, or easily show relevant paperwork.
		</p>

		<p>
			“We have designed these workshops to require minimal time investment for manufacturers to turn the actions into results, while still allowing participants to focus on the day-to-day operations of the business.”
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>
	</div>
</blockquote>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Made Smarter has different types of smart glasses to suit different requirements including: the Epson Moverio; Realwear HMT-1; Vuzix Blade; and Magic Leap.
</p>

<p>
	The glasses come with a 4G dongle to ensure connectivity if there are WiFi or network coverage challenges. They even work offline, which means manufacturers can record a video of the production line walk which can be reviewed later.
</p>

<p>
	The glasses are connected through Remote Eye software which enables a live stream video and the opportunity to take high definition screenshots which can be tagged in a library for swift access.
</p>

<p>
	Viewers can also use a cursor to direct the wearer to any areas of interest and annotate the picture in real time.
</p>

<p>
	Digital transformation workshops identify other ways the Made Smarter programme can support a manufacturer including: fully-funded digital technology internships to help implement projects and bring a fresh perspective and new skills into the business; specialist advice about workforce development and skills; and funding for new digital tools and technologies such as data and systems integration, robotics and automation, or additive manufacturing.

<p>
	A family-owned construction company has made a strong start to its golden jubilee year with a £2.5m contract to build an extension at a Cheshire school, taking its order book to over £13m.
</p>

<p>
	MC Construction, which is based in Salford, has begun work on the scheme at Park Lane Special School in Macclesfield.
</p>

<p>
	The contract has been awarded by Cheshire East Council, procured through the North West Construction Hub framework.
</p>

<p>
	It follows a project completed at the school which saw MC Construction build an emergency temporary mobile classroom block for the new pupil intake last September.
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2021_04/dlph.jpg.0a40ce01c6ee5231ae3ca0e806f1f25c.jpg" data-fileid="1615" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1615" data-ratio="52.50" data-unique="u7tza1pr9" width="1000" alt="dlph.jpg" data-src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2021_04/dlph.thumb.jpg.db0dda5a19ba5bc66e1d3e191c87206c.jpg" src="https://archive.salford.media/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png"></a>
</p>

<p>
	The latest Park Lane project means the company has secured more than £5.5m of education schemes for Cheshire East Council in the past couple of years.
</p>

<p>
	These include one at Elworth Church of England Primary School in Sandbach, where MC Construction is building an extension to house four classrooms, offices, toilets and other facilities in a £1.5m scheme. The project also includes the creation of sports pitches and courts and a forest school area with trail paths.
</p>

<p>
	Founded in 1971 by Charles Lowe and John Purcell, MC Construction has entered its milestone year with a strong order book, having secured contracts totalling more than £13m across the education, public sector, healthcare, leisure, heritage and industrial sectors.
</p>

<p>
	The company is extending and refurbishing a two-storey building at Park Lane School alongside associated external works to form a new teaching block.
</p>

<p>
	Park Lane School provides education for children with severe learning difficulties, complex needs and autism. The development will enable the school to increase pupil numbers from 82 to 122, in line with the council’s strategy of increasing specialist provision in the Macclesfield area.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>David Lowe, managing director of MC Construction and the son of co-founder Charles Lowe, said:</strong>
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-gramm="false" data-ipsquote="">

			“We are delighted to be working with Cheshire East Council once again and are immensely proud to be involved in this and other vital education projects in the area.
		</p>

		<p>
			“The works will significantly boost educational provision in the borough. Improving the facilities and teaching environment at Park Lane School will enhance the outstanding resources that it already provides for its pupils.
		</p>

		<p>
			“The school remains fully operational during the project, which has been carefully planned to minimise disruption, with an emphasis on ensuring the children feel safe and enjoy the construction works.
		</p>

		<p>
			“Park Lane School and Elworth have welcomed us with open arms as we work together to ensure the construction works are delivered safely.
		</p>

		<p>
			“With a strong pipeline of contracts across a number of sectors, we have begun our 50th year in business in great shape and look forward to the future with optimism.”

<p>
	Santander has announced that it is to close 111 branches up and down the country by the end of August this year and two branches in Salford are facing the axe.
</p>

<p>
	The Spanish-owned money lender said that the 'majority' of branches facing closure were under three miles from another Santander branch, with the furthest being just five miles away.
</p>

<p>
	It said that all of the 111 closing branches were within half a mile of at least two free-to-use cash machines.
</p>

<p>
	Branches in Swinton and Walkden are just two of the swathes being axed.
</p>

<p>
	The branch in Swinton is set to close on the 1st of July , whilst the Walkden branch is set closure even earlier on the 24th of June.
</p>

<p>
	The Eccles branch based on the local shopping precinct was closed back in March 2018, whilst the branch located within the University of Salford, Manchester, Lady Hale Building was permanently closed after a temporary closure in March 2020.
</p>

<p>
	This effectively leaves Salford without it's own branch of the bank with closest now being over the City border in neighbouring Manchester.

		</p>

		<p>
			“The next industrial revolution will look to digitalisation and decarbonisation as twin forces that will shape industry for the rest of this century. Being a leader in both those areas will make this city region a leader globally.
		</p>

		<p>
			“Made Smarter brings all these things together and looks at how we would support our traditional manufacturing base to become zero-carbon and fully digital and realise the productivity benefits that will come from that, but also the savings that will come from being more efficient and smarter in the way we operate.”

<p>
	The UK low cost supermarket chain has submitted proposals for its new store that it is hoped will regenerate the area around Mocha Parade in Lower Broughton which was built in the 1970's.
</p>

<p>
	If approved by Salford City Council it will become the 14th store within Greater Manchester as the chain expands across the country.
</p>

<p>
	Subject to approval, work on the store will start later this year with demolition of the existing building, erection of the store and extensive landscaping, as the area is known to attract wild birds including water-foul.
</p>

<p>
	<img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1594" data-ratio="71.74" data-unique="pt7zzzzq8" width="998" alt="160215862_2924562607825568_4145673214126025497_o.jpg" data-src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2021_03/160215862_2924562607825568_4145673214126025497_o.jpg.a1e603ed59dccc20a14a878535cca0f2.jpg" src="https://archive.salford.media/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png"></p>

<p>
	The plans include what is described as a flood basin along with a wild flower meadow which should provide an area for the local wildlife as well as become a focal point in the area. The store will be built upon a flood plain and has seen flooding in recent years but the opening of a new flood basin and wetlands in Kersal has been a huge game-changer for the area as it has provided protection to local homes and businesses.
</p>

<p>
	In Feb 2020 the newly opened flood basin was put to the test during the worst of storm Ciara, a test it passed with flying colours.

</p>

<p>
	When opened the multi million pound investment will provide around 40 jobs in the local area with a further 40 jobs to be created at another store in Castle Irwell.

<p>
	After a Review which took place earlier in the year, the Trustees Savings Bank (TSB) at Moorfield Parade in Irlam is set to close on the 25th of May.
</p>

<p>
	The move comes as the TSB revealed that 67% of all its customers are now using mobile, online or telephone banking, and in some branches they see an average of just 20 customers regularly visiting each week.
</p>

<p>
	Staff are now urging its customers to use the Branch in Eccles in the future should they require counter services as the bank moves more towards online banking as a way to provide its services.
</p>

<p>
	The move is part of a larger set of closures of which the TSB hopes will bring them savings of £100m by 2020.
</p>

<p>
	However, not all customers are happy at the prospect of having to travel an extra 4.5miles to visit a branch of their bank. Elderly customers are expected to be impacted upon the most due to the changes, with many unable to access or use computers, mobile phones or the internet.
</p>

<p>
	Full details on the move can be found below.

<p>
	A further 14.6 acres of land around the AJ Bell Stadium in Salford is to be sold to make way for the development of warehouses and combined office space, totalling 275,000 ft.
</p>

<p>
	The land is currently in the ownership of CosCoS, (The City of Salford Stadium Community Stadium Limited), which is a partnership between Salford City Council and Peel L&amp;P, and terms have been agreed to sell the site to an experienced developer in the logistics sector.
</p>

<p>
	Subject to planning, work on the new units could start by the end of the year and create around 350 new jobs. The planning team will consider issues such as infrastructure, accessibility, public transport and green space as part of the process.
</p>

<p>
	The sale follows land bought by Greene King and Aldi with a number of other potential sales being discussed on the remaining 25 acres of development land.
</p>

<p>
	The news indicates the strong market interest in the location and will, when all sales are completed, deliver investment in excess of £100 million, an estimated 800 jobs and business rates income each year of around £2million.

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Not all have been so upbeat about the development news as the Mayor, with some local residents taking to social media to claim that the siting of warehouses upon the land signals the end of a now failed dream to turn the area into a thriving retail park with the formerly named Salford City Stadium as the focal point, as just two plots were sold to Aldi for a supermarket and Greene King which built the Barley Farm public house on land close to the stadium.
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" href="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2021_02/aldi.jpg.6aca734ba508d87f11a634f9250e5763.jpg" data-fileid="1582" data-fileext="jpg" rel=""><img class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1582" data-ratio="52.50" data-unique="0zl0zbsqk" width="1000" alt="aldi.jpg" data-src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2021_02/aldi.thumb.jpg.48d4e9ed335c61a551c039b8171aba8c.jpg" src="https://archive.salford.media/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png"></a>
</p>

<p>
	A covenant that was in place which restricted the use has been pretty much torn up, as despite years of attempting to sell the land, the market for retail units in the area was clearly just not there. The land is located within distance of one of Europe's largest shopping centres (The Trafford Centre) as well as just a short car ride to an already established shopping centre just a motorway junction away.
</p>

<p>
	A number of potential sales have been mooted by local Salford councillors over the years but they ultimately failed to materialise into anything significant.
</p>

<p>
	Meanwhile others commenters on social media said that realistically speaking it is better to find some use for the land which can start to benefit Salford than to leave it vacant for potentially many more years to come.
</p>

<p>
	The plots are now set to be repurposed as industrial and employment space.
</p>

		</p>

		<p>

<p>
	This morning Asda revealed that it is to being consultation with its employees as it plans a massive restructuring of its business which could put 5,000 jobs at risk, including 3,000 support jobs.
</p>

<p>
	The proposed cuts would include in areas such as cash management, where there is less work as more people have been increasingly shopping online for groceries.
</p>

<p>
	The company aims to focus more on its online retail and delivery services which have become heavily used during the pandemic.
</p>

<p>
	Asda has increasingly come under pressure from smaller lo-cost supermarkets such as Aldi and Lidl, both of whom are fast becoming a major source of competition. The companies more traditional rivals like Tesco and Sainsburys are having similar problems as more and more people look to cut the cost of their weekly shop.
</p>

<p>
	Lidl is opening two new stores in Salford soon, one on the site of the old Mocha Parade in Lower Broughton and the second at Castle Irwell. The company opened a new store in Winton not too long ago.
</p>

<p>
	The smaller supermarkets were never really considered a threat but with the nations finances under pressure, so are they.
</p>

<p>
	Overall there has been a huge shift to online shopping as people have been forced to social distance but some have cited the current plans by Asda to be a step in the wrong direction as when the country reopens and the pandemic is a footnote in history, they predict people will return to the shops and traditional ways to shop.
</p>

<p>
	If the shops and services are not there then they will simply go to the ones which are.
</p>

<p>
	Both Lidl and Aldi have seen a boom in shopping in recent months and have even gone so far as to give staff wage increases and bonuses to reflect their increased profits.

<p>
	Salford based telecommunications provider Talk Talk, who took up residency of the former boiler house at the 'SoapWorks' in Ordsall (Salford Quays) back in 2017, announced more than 50 six-month work placements for young people, as part of the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.
</p>

<p>
	The Kickstart Scheme is run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and will last until the end of 2021. It provides funding to create new job placements for 16- to 24-year-olds on Universal Credit who are at risk of long-term unemployment, having been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis.
</p>

<p>
	Department for Work and Pensions data shows that there were 83,000 people aged 16-24 who were unemployed and on Universal Credit in the North West as of June 2020. Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, between March 2020 and October 2020, there was also a 75% increase in people on Universal Credit in the North West.
</p>

<p>
	As one of the region’s leading employers, they are offering roles to at least 50 young people across all areas of the business. Positions will be available in customer relations, communications, technology, and administration initially, with the potential to extend into other departments later in the year.
</p>

<p>
	They began advertising the roles over the weekend and are now accepting applications. The jobs are only available to young people currently receiving Universal Credit.
</p>

<p>
	Advertisements and more information can be found in local job centres and on the TalkTalk careers page: careers.talktalk.co.uk. Applicants are advised to seek advice from their work coach before applying.
</p>

<p>
	They will also be selecting applicants with the help of The Prince’s Trust, a charity which supports young people on their journey through education and workplace training. Potential new starters will be taking part in development bootcamps before being directed to TalkTalk for an interview. Aside from facilitating the interview process, the bootcamp also offers sessions and advice on employability, workplace skills and office 101 training.
</p>

<p>
	All placements will be paid Real Living Wage for 25 hours a week over the six-month contract period. We will review the placements once the six-month contract ends, with the potential to place those on the Kickstart Scheme into full-time positions.

<p>
	I posted on Facebook over the weekend that I had been told the shop was closed and was possibly closing down, I was inundated with replies and memories from people who had bought bicycles from their over the years and so  many memories of Mrs Brookes and her kindness and if not eccentric methods of payments for the bikes often on a weekly basis, not to mention her i <span style="background-color: rgb( var(--theme-area_background_reset) ); color: rgb( var(--theme-text_color) );">at a premium, so call in the shop whilst you can.</span>

<p>
	The family have been selling bicycles for 130 years and it is thought they have been trading in Eccles for almost 100 years, which must be a record in itself, almost everybody I know have bought a bicycle their children and their parents bought them one as well, I know I bought Sean's there.

	<strong><span style="color:#4e5f70;">The 2020 Technology Innovator Awards returns for its fifth year, allowing Corporate Vision magazine to reward firms working in this demanding sector for their innovation and excellence in business practice, as well as their outstanding overall performance.</span></strong>
</p>

<p>
	Technology has become one of the most important aspects in our daily lives and is all around us; from instant communication and entertainment, to improvements in services and security, every aspect of the modern business market has been influenced by technology in one way or another.
</p>

<p>
	The Internet of Things (IoT) is widely considered to be the next giant technological leap towards global interconnectivity and integration.  The Internet of things (IoT) describes connecting everyday physical objects— “things” to the internet through embedded devices equipped with sensors, software, and other technologies. This enables “things” like plant, machinery, building systems to be controlled remotely, provide live performance data and advise their operators of impending electrical or mechanical failures before they occur.
</p>

<p>
	Corporate Vison’s Awards Manager, Laura Hunter comments upon SanCloud’s achievement within the IoT arena:
