<p>
	Emergency services were called after three baby roe deer (Fawns) were spotted wandering the embankment and attempting to swim across the River Irwell at Lower Broughton earlier today.
</p>

<p>
	Kind hearted emergency services stepped in to rescue the three amigo's and relocate them somewhere a little safer.
</p>

<p>
	With fast flowing underwater currents and freezing water temperatures, a dip in the river and a frozen river bank was not the best place for them to be, they could have easily gotten into trouble. It is thought that they had become disorientated and lost.
</p>

<p>
	Salford has a surprising amount of wildlife and deer can be regularly seen wandering onto the cities streets from surrounding green areas.
</p>

<p>
	How they got there we have no ideer but all that matters is they are safe and sound as we are quite fawned of them.

<p><img src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_12/delph.jpg.6538a0a159b641cb7a775dbd50772c8f.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	A £5.5 million facelift for Salford’s Bridgewater Canal has been completed uncovering hidden history at Worsley Delph.
</p>

<p>
	The Delph, formerly a quarry, was the birthplace of the Bridgewater Canal which was a catalyst for the Industrial Revolution. Over time the site had become overgrown but after a 14 month-long restoration project, the Delph has been transformed with enhanced access for visitors and new features that reveal its unique heritage.
</p>

<p>
	The work is the culmination of a £5.5 million physical regeneration of the Salford stretch of the Bridgewater Canal funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Salford City Council, Bridgewater Canal Company and other partners.
</p>

<p>
	salford.media took a trip there over the summer to take a look for ourselves.
</p>

<div class="ipsEmbeddedVideo" contenteditable="false">
	<div>
		<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="true" frameborder="0" height="270" src="https://salford.media/applications/core/interface/index.html" width="480" data-embed-src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vNtWiHmXP6w?feature=oembed"></iframe>
	</div>
</div>

<p>
	Councillor David Lancaster, lead member for environment and community safety, said the work would help new generations of local residents and visitors to fully appreciate the Delph’s rich history and the canal’s role in the Industrial Revolution.
</p>

<p>
	He said,
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">
	<div class="ipsQuote_citation">
		Quote
	</div>

	<div class="ipsQuote_contents ipsClearfix">
		<p>
			“A new multi-level viewing platform has been installed to improve access and offer panoramic views across to the island. New features now tell the story of the Delph’s past as both a gateway to an extensive network of underground coal mines and the starting point for Britain’s first ‘true’ canal in 1761. These included a sculptural representation of the primitive crane that towered over the island during the Delph’s early life as a quarry,”
		</p>
	</div>
</blockquote>

<p>
	The construction work uncovered several historic finds. During de-silting, a partially submerged mining boat near the site’s western cliff face was lifted and moved just to the south of the Delph island to be more visible from the viewing platform. Another, 1940s mine maintenance boat was discovered buried in silt in the south-western basin. Due to its fragile condition archaeologists have advised it remain buried to preserve it.
</p>

<p>
	Construction work to create a new viewing platform revealed two previously unrecorded tunnels beneath School Brow and also a metal winch. The winch was probably used to move goods between boats and Worsley Road, while the tunnel, which had a stone quay at its mouth, may have been used for coal deliveries to the village corn mill.
</p>

<p>
	The tunnels were recorded by archaeologists from the University of Salford and preserved, although they are hidden from view behind the new platform. The winch has been restored and reinstalled within the Delph.
</p>

<p>
	One of the sluice gates between the Delph and an entrance to the underground mines has been restored and the site itself is now lit up from dusk. There are also new artworks, including a replica mine cart full of coal and a copy of the original Act of Parliament from 1759 that set the canal system in motion.
</p>

<p>
	In Nailmaker’s Basin, on the other side of Worsley Road Bridge, new seating and interpretive paving has been installed and Alphabet Bridge, the smallest bridge across the Bridgewater Canal, has been restored. The bridge gets its name from   its 26 planks used by generations of school children to help learn their alphabet as they cross it to reach nearby St Mark’s school.
</p>

<p>
	These improvements are part of the final phase of the National Heritage Lottery Fund and Salford City Council supported improvement works along the Bridgewater Canal in Salford.
</p>

<p>
	These include:
</p>

<p>
	· conservation and lighting of James Brindley’s original 1761 stone aqueduct at Barton
</p>

<p>
	· conservation works to Worsley Green Monument and James Nasmyth’s Steam Hammer at Patricroft
</p>

<p>
	· distinctive new sculptures along the canal including the Monton horse, the Barton navvie and the Worsley ducks
</p>

<p>
	· widening and resurfacing towpaths from Worsley to Boothstown and at Barton and new signs and seating
</p>

<p>
	· improvement works to Barton Aqueduct Pocket Park and Duke’s Drive country park next to the canal in Monton

<p>
	Earlier this evening (15th Dec), we were made aware of the sad passing of the much beloved Kersal councillor, Peter Connor, who has served tirelessly on the Council since May 1990.
</p>

<p>
	Peter was a down to earth true Salfordian with a wicked sense of humour, which went hand in hand with an almost encyclopedic memory of the changes he witnessed in Salford during his life time, he was widely respected and beloved by all of those who met him.
</p>

<p>
	No matter how small the issue, Peter was always willing to listen and help in any way he could.
</p>

<p>
	Myself and Tony Flynn had the absolute pleasure of chatting with him early last year as part of the Lark Hill Place 1918 celebrations at Salford Museum and Art Gallery, when he was serving as Ceremonial Mayor of Salford.
</p>

<p>
	His many humorous memories and tales of the now long gone Hanky Park were a privileged to have shared, and brought a fair few chuckles from both myself and Tony Flynn.
</p>

<p>
	Salford has today suffered a terrible loss, he was a true gentleman and an outstanding politician who has served this City admirably.
</p>

<p>
	Our condolences go to his family at this heartbreaking time.

<p>
	In what could be one of the biggest upsets of the election, Salford Labour stand a 61% chance of loosing the Worsley &amp; Eccles South seat to the Conservatives Arnie Saunders, which would send shock-waves across the Salford political spectrum.
</p>

<p>
	The seat has long been considered to be one of the safest Labour Stronghold but if the exit polls are to be believed then that could all be about to change.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="ELnz1jNW4AIPLHl.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1342" data-unique="sef4h39ek" src="https://salford.media/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_12/ELnz1jNW4AIPLHl.jpg.4e36ec12d7a60f5b86972e2825310f4f.jpg" width="640" data-ratio="74.38"></p>

<p>
	Barbara Keeley has held the constituency since 2006 when it was formed as party of boundary changes affecting Worsley.
</p>

<p>
	It would seem that at this point into the night, Labours majorities nationally have been dramatically reduced in all seats that have declared so far. If this trend carries on into Salford then it could have a devastating effect on Keeley's chances of retaining her seat.
</p>

<p>
	A Tory win would mean that for the first time in a long time our City would have MP's who sit on the opposing benches to each other.

<p>

	The driver of a number 34 bus went to the woman's aid and stayed with her until the paramedics arrived.

<p>
	We are also being told that traffic has come to a standstill on the opposite carriageway due to people slowing down to rubber-neck, this apparently hampered the ambulance getting to the scene but they finally managed to push through the traffic and are now treating with her.

<p>
	We will update this as we get more information.

<p>
	Andy Whyment, best known for his beloved roll as long suffering Kirk Sutherland who has been walking the famous cobbles of the fictional town of Weatherfield since his debut in 2000.
</p>

<p>
	On the 21st of November Andy entered the ITV jungle with fellow contestant Cliff 'Minty' Parisi, but unlike the later who was voted out by the public earlier in the week, Andy has endured, winning over the support of viewers up and down the country. Andy was an instant hit with fans when he arrived late into the jungle and is now the clear favourite to win after surging ahead of his fellow campers Roman Kemp and Jacqueline Jossa as the first eliminations loom.
</p>

<p>
	The actor has been dubbed 'The Terminator' by fans after donning a super hero costume  to take on the shows now infamous 'Celebrity Cyclone' in which contestants have to face the elements to carry four starts across the finish line to win food for the camp.
</p>

<p>
	Whyment earned his new moniker after marching relentlessly without fear through the onslaught of wind and rain to get the job done to make sure his fellow campers didn't have to eat the now familiar diet of beans and rice.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>The odds as they stand currently are:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	Andy - 4/9
</p>

<p>
	Roman - 4/1
</p>

<p>
	Jacqueline - 10/1

	Andy's win is not secure though so in order to bring home the crown to Salford we urge you all to download the I'm A Celebrity App onto your smart phones and smash the votes for Andy. Voting is FREE.
