<p>
	Greater Manchester Police have given an update on the 'domestic incident' which they were called out for at around 1:30pm this afternoon (5th October), they confirm that a 27-year-old man has now been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill as well as possession of a firearm with intent to kill.
</p>

<p>
	The man has been arrested and remains in custody for further questioning.
</p>

<p>
	There have been no injuries reported.
</p>

<p>
	Armed officers wearing helmets and balaclavas responded to a report of a 'domestic incident' at a terrace house on Silver Street this earlier this afternoon.
</p>

<p>
	The road was cordoned off for a time and officers were present around the area but they have since scaled back the operation and reopened the roads.
</p>

<p>
	A GMP spokesperson could not clarify at the time as to why armed officers had responded, but stressed that there is 'no threat to the wider public.'
</p>

<p>
	There was speculation online that the police were responding to claims of a hostage situation but those claims were proven to be unfounded.
</p>

<p>
	It is with greatest sadness we have the duty to report upon the sudden death of a Salford Council Stalwart, Councillor John Ferguson.
</p>

<p>
	John represented the Pendlebury Ward in Salford for many years, a staunch Labour Party activist and a proud socialist, always keen to champion his local constituents and the City he called home.
</p>

<p>
	As a life-long trade unionist he was well placed in his role as lead member for workforce and industrial relations, he has been described by many as an endless source of knowledge and encouragement to so many.
</p>

<p>
	He will be sorely missed.
</p>

<p>
	Salford Council have issued the following statement:
</p>

<p>
	We wish to pay our condolences to his fellow colleagues, his friends but most of all his family at this tragic time.

<p>
	Roswell, Area 51, Little Hulton, all famed UFO hot-spots and favourite destinations of those pesky little green/grey men? Well they are this evening after space faring visitors sparked scenes of panic in (LH) the likes only seen in Hollywood blockbusters like Mars Attacks and War of the Worlds. OK it wasn't that bad, realistically a few people got confused and thought they had seen a UFO.
</p>

<p>
	Reports quickly flooded local Facebook groups with claims of a strange light travelling across the sky, it was only a matter of time before claims of alien visitation were rampant and as fast as some group admin removed posts, others popped up claiming a cover-up.
</p>

<p>
	Our resident scientist Tony Flynn went on high alert as there was no way them damned dirty aliens were probing him again, never again, no sir, never again.
</p>

<p>
	Like lightening he contacted us here in the salford.media Bunker and so we set about our task of finally finding proof that these space men (&amp; women) exist.
</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:26px;">AND WE DID.</span>
</p>

<p>
	Well sort of, as it turns out that there were indeed visitors from space hovering over Salford this evening, albeit on the International Space Station which coasted across our skies on its orbit around the earth.
</p>

<p>
	Yes, it seems that the orbiting space laboratory was the mysterious orb that was being reported, so put down the pitch-forks and rejoice in the knowledge that the earth is still safe.
</p>

<p>
	An international crew of six are currently on-board the station carrying out experiments which will hopefully aid humanity as it ventures out into the inky black  void of space towards new worlds.
</p>

<p>
	What's more is it is set to pass above us again over the coming week, with its longest pass happening tomorrow evening at around 7:34pm. So if the skies are clear, get out in the garden and look up into the South Eastern skies and you will be able to catch a glimpse of the <s>UFO</s> ISS for yourself.
</p>

<p>
	Or is it? Of course this entire article could just be a huge government cover-up to prevent you all from learning the truth of our planned conquest of your puny planet?

	Police were called out after reports of a large disturbance involving a group of youths acting anti-socially close to the food court at Manchester's Arndale this evening.
</p>

<p>
	Witnesses have described up to 100 youths acting aggressively towards security staff at the Arndale.

<p>
	There were 10 amnesty bins put out around Greater Manchester for members of the public to anonymously deposit any knives they were in possession of.
</p>

<p>
	These have proved to be a huge success and are something officers are looking to roll out on a permanent basis in an effort to reduce knife crime incidents.
</p>

<p>
	Officers also made 44 arrests for separate knife incidents across the week, which ranged from people being arrested on suspicion of carrying a knife to robbery. Of these arrests, three knives were recovered and safely disposed of.
</p>

<p>
	Over 230 stop and searches were performed, many of which resulted in an arrest. Out of these arrests seven were related to knife-crime and seven knives were seized.
</p>

<p>
	During the week there were 126 educational events ranging from officers making visits to schools and colleges. Increasing the knowledge around the dangers of carrying a knife is a priority for GMP and educational visits and events are important to help spread this message further afield.
</p>

<p>
	Superintendent Chris Downey said:

		<p>
			“The consequences around carrying a knife are huge and range from being expelled from school, through to loss of life. A big part of my role is to inform people of the catastrophic after-effects of carrying a knife, with one point in particular being that even if you don’t plan on using the knife, just by carrying it, your chances of becoming a victim of knife crime increases.”

<p>
	The much loved veterans 'old mans' shelter has recently benefited from a £25,000 face-lift thanks to a Heritage Fund grant which was successfully applied for by the Monton Village Community Assosiation (MVCA).
</p>

<p>
	The official title of the Veterans’ Shelter leads many people to think it was built as a war memorial but the name actually refers to veterans of industry.
</p>

<p>
	Sadly we have to report that it has become the latest victim of the mindless vandals with tiles being damaged on the newly fitted roof as well as the letters ED and PD being scratched into the stone work. What looks like the split in half bottom part of a traffic cone looks to have been thrown on the roof where it remains.
</p>

<p>
	The act of vandalism has prompted anger from the local community who were quick to condemn those responsible.
</p>

<p>
	The iconic Salford landmark has stood in Monton for almost 70 years and has become a focal point of the community having offered a safe refuge from the cold and wet weather for countless residents during that time, in 1936 the shelter was even used to announce the abdication of King Edward VIII to the local community.

<p>
	Olympic hopeful Alex Decunha took the top spot in the skateboarding competition, with legendary DJ Mr Scruff joining the action sports community for a brand-new event aimed at removing the stigma around well-being in extreme sports.
</p>

<p>
	The new event, Coping, took place at Graystone Action Sports skate park on 28 September, raising £4000 for Manchester based charities; The Christie and 42nd Street.
</p>

<p>
	It highlighted the well-being issues surrounding action sports and music, which has lead to a string of tragedies in recent years.
</p>

<p>
	Coping included creative workshops, family auctions and a competition for some of the UK’s most talented skaters. Mental health sufferers shared their stories and experienced professionals held expert well-being sessions for those present.
</p>

<p>
	The event organiser, Wil Hesketh explained,

<p>
	The protest banner was strung across the footbridge at Peel Park in Salford overnight and an image of it was posted on Twitter by the Manchester branch of the Momentum group with the tag line of “Good morning @Conservatives. Welcome to Manchester", two effigies of what we assume to are meant to symbolise Tory members, were hung from the side of the bridge.
</p>

<p>
	However,  Salford Council acted quickly to have it removed as has the offensive tweet.
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileid="1153" href="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_09/momentum-tweet.jpg.03ae6c0cdf2f902e2a89df87ff8e8993.jpg" rel=""><img alt="momentum-tweet.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1153" data-unique="lskm77zky" src="https://salford.media/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_09/momentum-tweet.thumb.jpg.29e5f7bd42f5d7e099080eefd4c0519e.jpg" width="598" data-ratio="125.42"></a>
</p>

<p>
	No one has so far claimed responsibility for the disgusting display.
</p>

<p>
	This is not the first time either, last year a similar banner was put up and with the Conservative Party conference in neighbouring Manchester over the coming week, tensions are high as protesters march upon the Manchester Central venue where it is being held.
</p>

<p>
	The PM, Boris Johnson, and his party are up in the north for their annual conference which is always met with protests and this year is no different as 'Anti-Austerity and Reject Brexit' campaigners descend upon the city.
</p>

<p>
	The banner and dummies have been widely condemned by all sides on Twitter.
</p>

<p>
	In a reply to a post by Tory delegate Kerry Boyd, one lady summed things up nicely by saying,
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">
	<div class="ipsQuote_citation">
		Quote
	</div>

	<div class="ipsQuote_contents ipsClearfix">

<p><img src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_09/michelle.jpg.d843fb842c87ffceebda3afb1d914e91.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	There really are no words anyone could use to even start to describe the pain and suffering that loving mum, Michelle Pearson, had endured during the 20 months after her life was turned upside down when fire spread through her family home in Walkden, it would devastate everything in its path, claiming the lives of four of her beloved children, leaving her lay in a coma recovering for months.
</p>

<p>
	To lose her children in such a horrific circumstance was tragedy enough but once the reality set in that the blaze was no accident, then for the people of this City, grief turned to anger and rage, and rightly so as this was without doubt, the most horrific and barbaric crime this city has witnessed.
</p>

<p>
	Four children murdered as they slept, a caring mother left to suffer life threatening physical injuries and the unimaginable mental trauma of having to awake from an induced coma to then be told of the tragic deaths of her children. Is it any wonder that her mind struggled to comprehend just what had happened? Is it any wonder it took almost six weeks for her to fully come to terms with what she had lost and how her life had now so devastatingly altered?
</p>

<div class="ipsEmbeddedOther" contenteditable="false">
	<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="ipsEmbed_finishedLoading" data-embedid="embed4121632590" scrolling="no" src="https://salford.media/applications/core/interface/index.html" style="overflow: hidden; height: 595px;" data-embed-src="https://archive.salford.media/index.php?app=core&amp;module=system&amp;controller=embed&amp;url=https://www.facebook.com/debbie.m.cann/videos/10216751120024930/"></iframe>
</div>

<p>
	Despite all which she had endured and all which she had still yet to face, this remarkable and courageous lady fought with every breath she had and in doing so she got to see justice served as those unmentionable and deplorable people who perpetrated the horrific attack against her home were finally jailed for the callous murder of her precious babies.
</p>

<p>
	In the end, her battle would worsen and her condition would quickly deteriorate and on the 25th of August 2019, this amazing inspirational soul succumbed to her injuries, closed her eyes ones last time and departed this world to be with her four youngest children once more.
</p>

<p>
	Her niece Courtney Pearson summed her tragic death up perfectly when she said,
</p>

<p>
	"She held on, but her children needed her more."
</p>

<p>
	And so today (27th September) almost a year to the day on which the people of Salford lined the streets of Walkden to say farewell to her children, they turned up once more despite the weather to bid a final farewell to Michelle as the cortege proceeded to St Pauls Church and then later to St Mary's Cemetery in Walkden.
</p>

<p>
	As her poppy adorned coffin followed the same route as that taken by Demi, Brandon, Lacie and little Lia had taken, crowds gathered in silence, united in their grief. Michelle at the front of the procession carried upon a black carriage, followed by four flower filled white carriages representing her beloved children.
</p>

<p>
	The Pearson family will always be a part of this city, their tragic tale has touched the hearts of us all and we share in their grief. Our condolences to her family and friends.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks to Andrew Price for compiling the video.

<p>
	The annual Tory Party Conference is coming to town once more and with tens of thousands expected to flood into Manchester the police are leaving no stone un-turned in order to keep the peace.
</p>

<p>
	With counter-demonstrations planned and both of the cities football teams set to do battle on home turf this weekend, the police will effectively have the city centre on lock-down for the week and a ring of steel in place around the Manchester Central venue.
</p>

<p>
	It is thought that GMP will be drafting in officers and resources from other areas of Greater Manchester in order to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
</p>

<p>
	It was initially thought that the conference would be cancelled at a huge loss of an estimated £32m to the local economy.
</p>

<p>
	With tensions already running high over Brexit and with demonstrations and anti-Tory rallies planned, GMP ensuring that there is a highly visible presence.
</p>

<p>
	Protesters will be making their own way to Manchester for the planned 'Reject Brexit' rally on Sunday and the infamous Boris Blimp will be following the beleaguered PM all the way from its usual home in Westminster.
</p>

<p>
	The Peoples Assembly will also be marching against the Governments austerity measures.
</p>

<p>
	Shoppers and those commuting into the city centre should be aware of potential traffic disruption over the coming week.
</p>

<p>
	TfGM are advising travellers to keep an eye on their website so as to be kept up-to-date.
</p>

<p>
	Chief Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry, Gold Commander in charge of policing the Conservative Party Conference 2019, said:
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">

			“The hosting of party conferences brings tens of thousands of visitors to the city, supporting local businesses and the local economy; it is testament to Manchester being an iconic venue for major events.<br><br>
			“GMP, in conjunction with a strong multiagency partnership, has a vast amount of experience in planning and hosting the large security operations needed to successfully manage events such as this.<br><br>
			“Officers will be visible in the city throughout the conference period as part of Operation Protector, and we aim to ensure the event’s security and implement plans to manage any wider impact upon the rest of Manchester.<br><br>
			“Sunday 29 September will likely be a busy day in the city centre, because as well as welcoming delegates to the start of the conference, there will also be a number of demonstrations and rallies in Manchester –with tens of thousands of people expected to attend.<br><br>
			“As with many events of this nature, emotions can run high and while everyone has the right to peacefully protest, anyone behaving in a manner which is done to intimidate others or crosses into committing criminal offences will be dealt with appropriately.”
