	The survey, available on GM Consult, has been launched to help the Task Force provide further evidence of the impact on residents living in high rise buildings following the tragic Grenfell tower fire and inform the future work of the Task Force. It will run until July 28, 2019.
</p>

<p>
	Paul Dennett, Salford City Mayor and Chair of the Greater Manchester High Rise Task Force, said:
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">

		</p>

		<p>
			“Since the launch of the High Rise Task Force we have worked tirelessly to ensure every tower block across Greater Manchester has been inspected and necessary steps taken to ensure the immediate safety of residents in the case of fire and that all residents have received information about their blocks.”

<p>
	The research will also look into residents understanding of fire safety and the safety measures of their building.

<p>
	The High Rise Task Force brings together all ten local authorities, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, landlords of tower blocks across the city-region in both private and public ownership, as well as representatives from Universities, Utility Companies and other specialist teams to ensure buildings are safe and that Greater Manchester could respond effectively to a major high rise incident.
</p>

<p>
	Since it was established, the work of the taskforce has included:
</p>

<p>
	Inspecting every residential high rise in Greater Manchester by GMFRS to ensure they comply with fire regulations. GMFRS officers have and continue to work with local authorities, social landlords and buildings in private ownership to address fire safety concerns
</p>

<p>
	Full participation and submission of evidence to Dame Judith Hackitt’s Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety. The interim report echoed Greater Manchester’s findings that the building regulations system is not fit for purpose and needs to be overhauled
</p>

<p>
	Looking at developing plans for a ‘Greater Manchester’ standard of fire safety, putting the safety of buildings and those living and working in them at the centre
</p>

<p>
	Continuing to lobby government to provide clear guidance and the necessary funding to ensure our buildings and our residents are safe. This includes supporting housing providers and building owners with interim fire safety measures and the replacement of cladding systems, ensuring our fire and rescue service has the resources it needs to effectively enforce fire safety legislation, and protecting residents
</p>

<p>
	The GM High Rise Task Force has met to look at the implications of the Government’s current Building a Safer Consultation and the High Rise Residents Forum is meeting on the July 11 at 6pm to look at this from a Residents perspective.  The results of the survey will help shape the Task Force response to the consultation.
</p>

<p>
	High rise residents can let the task force know about their experiences, thoughts, opinions and concerns through the survey: <a href="https://www.gmconsult.org/strategy-team/gm_hrtf/" rel="external nofollow">https://www.gmconsult.org/strategy-team/gm_hrtf/</a>

<p>
	It seems utterly unbelievable but the owners of Irlam Juniors Football Club have had to put up signs warning dog owners that they are being recorded on CCTV.
</p>

<p>
	The reason being, that uncaring dog walkers are letting their pets run free to (for the want of a better word) crap all over the same pitch that the youngsters play on. It is utterly disgusting and totally out of order and it seems some owners need to have their ruddy noses rubbed into it to teach them a lesson.
</p>

<p>
	As you can imagine this is very much NOT acceptable at all when the pitch at Silver street in Irlam is used on a regular basis by a children's football club. Most people have the sense to pick up their pedigree pooch poops but it seems that there are some who think its acceptable to leave a massive steaming curly hound mound on the ground.
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileid="1078" href="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_07/66470942_10157742723181742_4273634378124361728_n.jpg.fb4e9f30780184c1469cfeb0c122f3b2.jpg" rel=""><img alt="66470942_10157742723181742_4273634378124361728_n.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1078" data-unique="67gbrcgzw" src="https://salford.media/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_07/66470942_10157742723181742_4273634378124361728_n.thumb.jpg.2de0be17d20349f2b65f82143b32f128.jpg" width="580" data-ratio="129.31"></a>
</p>

<p>
	Dog owners are being asked to have a little consideration for others using the field and they are reminded that it is a football pitch and not a dog toilet. It is not too much to ask that if your dog does a titanic turd, you bag it and bin it.
</p>

<p>
	It's not the dogs who are to blame here, they are just doing what comes naturally too them, it is up to the owner to clean up after them and failure to do so could land you with a fine.
</p>

<p>
	The volunteers at the club have been working tirelessly to ensure that the pitch is poop free so the kids can enjoy the game, however they increasingly had to deal with it on a daily basis and its just not on.
</p>

<p>
	Anyone found failing to clean up after their pooches will be prosecuted, you are being watched by CCTV.
</p>

<p>
	A report by Judge Thomas Teague QC has heavily criticised Greater Manchester Police for role in a botched surveillance operation which left Anthony Grainger of Lower Broughton dead from gun shot wounds back in 2012.
</p>

<p>
	The QC said that the police did not conduct the armed deployment of officers in accordance with the requirements stipulated under article 2 of the European convention on human rights, this failure was to blame for his death.
</p>

<p>
	The father of two from Salford's Lower Broughton area was shot dead by marksmen during an operation in which they aimed to arrest a group of men who they suspected of being involved in armed robberies.
</p>

<p>
	He was one of three men sat in a red Audi and officers believed they were planning an armed robbery. However the police intelligence was flawed.
</p>

<p>
	During the the operation, an officer fired through the windscreen of the vehicle Mr Grainger was in whilst sat in the sleepy village of Culcheth, within seconds a canister of CS gas was thrown through the window and shocked onlookers screamed and panicked as the vehicles tyres were shot out.
</p>

<p>
	The officer known as Q9, said he had seen Grainger lower his arms and mistakenly though he was reaching for a firearm, however no weapons were found in the vehicle, or for that matter later on when a search was conducted at his home premises.
</p>

<p>
	After the shooting, police failed to follow proper procedures, the inquiry found.
</p>

<p>
	A case was brought against then police chief Peter Fahy but it collapsed after the judge accepted an abuse of process argument lodge by his defence.
</p>

<p>
	Q9 was never prosecuted, however, the force was charged under health and safety law.
</p>

<p>
	A GMP spokesperson said:
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">
	<div class="ipsQuote_citation">
		Quote
	</div>

	<div class="ipsQuote_contents ipsClearfix">
		<p>

		</p>

		<p>
			“We fully understand the heart-breaking effect that Anthony Grainger’s death has had on his family and loved ones. We also fully understand that the public inquiry will have been very difficult for them. On behalf of Greater Manchester Police, we offer our condolences to Anthony Grainger’s family and to his loved ones.
		</p>

		<p>
			“We have received the public inquiry report into the death of Anthony Grainger and we are considering the findings of the chairman, HHJ Teague QC.
		</p>

		<p>
			“In his report, the chairman has made a number of findings which are critical of GMP. The criticisms are wide-ranging and include criticisms of aspects of the planning and preparation of the firearms operation during which Anthony Grainger lost his life on 3rd March 2012.
		</p>

		<p>
			“The force, our commanders, and our officers do not set out on any policing operation with the intention of firearms being discharged. This case was no different and the safety of the public, the subjects of police operations and our officers is, and remains, our absolute priority.
		</p>

		<p>
			“That being said, we undertake to consider each and every one of the chairman’s findings and criticisms with the utmost care, attention and reflection. It is what the public would expect GMP to do in circumstances where criticisms have been made of the planning and preparation of a police operation in which a young man lost his life. It is what GMP will do.
		</p>

		<p>
			“Working alongside our regional and national partners, we will consider all of the chairman’s recommendations to assess what more can be done now, and in the future, to further improve the safety of police firearms operations.
		</p>

		<p>
			“Many changes have already been made locally, regionally and nationally since the death of Anthony Grainger in 2012, most recently following an independent review conducted by the College of Policing. We will continue to strive to maximise the safety of all policing operations.
		</p>

		<p>
			“We will not comment any further until we have had an opportunity to read the chairman’s report in more detail.”
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>
	</div>
</blockquote>

<p>
	The report stated that although Mr Grainger had a previous history of dishonesty and vehicle crime, there were no convictions on his record for violence or robbery.

<p>
	Police descended on a small patch of woodland close to Buile Hill Park at around 8:10 am yesterday morning (9th July) after they were alerted to a body having been found by school children which appeared to be wrapped in plastic. The children were heading to school for morning lessons at the nearby Buile Hill Academy when the grisly discovery was made.

<p>
	Police have now disclosed that the deceased is Northern Quarter chef Hiran Chauhan who has been missing since 10:30pm on the 2nd of July.
</p>

<p>
	While formal identification is yet to take place, police believe this to be the body of 24-year-old Hiran Chuahan who was reported missing on Thursday 4 July 2019. His family have been informed.<br><br>
	Hiram is said to have visited the McDonald's restaurant in Piccadilly Gardens before starting his journey home via tram, CCTV footage places him at the Cornbrook stop at 11:08 pm, he then changed tram to start his journey along the Eccles line whereupon he got off at Langworthy at around 11:31pm. Police were alerted after he failed to return home as expected.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>A 32 year old man from Salford has since been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been held in custody for questioning by police.</strong>
</p>

<p>
	His family mounted a huge search for him in the local area and had been knocking door to door in an attempt to locate him, they also conducted an online campaign to make the public aware of his disappearance in the hope someone may have seen him.

<p>
	Initially concerns were raised that the headstones were being neglected and possibly heading for landfill. It was even thought by some that the markers had been removed from grave sites but having spoken to the site manager today we were reassured that this was not the case, in fact Salford University Archaeological Unit had been fully involved and were due to pay a future visit to the site to undertake further excavation work at a later date. No human remains have been found on the site.
</p>

<p>
	So rather than find desecration of graves we actually found a very respectful level of conservation going on.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="memorialstone.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1073" data-unique="la51unqsn" src="https://salford.media/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_07/memorialstone.jpg.f7eaf70da6598fce2927260da54d7b40.jpg" width="900" data-ratio="64.89"></p>

<p>
	A source at Salford University has also confirmed this to be the case.
</p>

<p>
	Also a memorial stone has been unearthed albeit broken in half, which reads, Irwell Street, New Weslyan Schools, laid by Alderman Thomas Davies, Superintendant of the School on Saturday August 31st 1872.
</p>

<p>
	<a class="ipsAttachLink ipsAttachLink_image" data-fileid="1074" href="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_07/GMII_SAHS_1871_1.jpg.82dcd8c3399bc9c9029c25f92e7649e1.jpg" rel=""><img alt="GMII_SAHS_1871_1.jpg" class="ipsImage ipsImage_thumbnailed" data-fileid="1074" data-unique="oyo2e6yl5" src="https://salford.media/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" data-src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_07/GMII_SAHS_1871_1.thumb.jpg.b38057d2ee81c3a8a52cd8e5e329a397.jpg" width="567" data-ratio="132.28"></a>
</p>

<p>
	It is thought that the gravestones were buried as part of previous excavations of the site over 40 years ago; only to be uncovered once more as part of the current excavations. They have been recovered as carefully as possible although some were understandably damaged having been lain in the ground for so long.
</p>

<p>
	University archaeologists will be paying another visit to the site in the coming months as a small section is suspected of possibly holding human remains, although that is unconfirmed as yet. The area has been cordoned off from the rest of the site to allow for inspection and further study. Should any human remains be found they will be respectfully removed and re-interred elsewhere within the boundaries.
</p>

<p>
	A spokesman for Salford City Council said:
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">
	<div class="ipsQuote_citation">
		Quote
	</div>

	<div class="ipsQuote_contents ipsClearfix">

			“Islington Park is not being built on but, subject to securing funding, will be refurbished and improved as part of this development.
		</p>

		<p>
			“The development on land beside the park includes 167 apartments, to a maximum height of seven stories, 11 townhouses and 1,333 sq metres of commercial space. A turning head for vehicles is being constructed at the end of North Star Drive, which is near to the edge of the park. This formed part of the planning application.
		</p>

		<p>
			“Archaeologists from the University of Salford carried out initial investigations before work began to check for the presence of graves. The trial trenches did not identify any graves but the archaeologists remain involved in the construction process.
		</p>

		<p>
			“They believe that gravestones which have been found on the site, were removed from their original locations and re-laid elsewhere, probably 40 years ago. Investigations, which were undertaken with all the proper permits have now concluded and found that there were no human remains at the site. Those gravestones have now been moved in the correct manner and treated with due respect.
		</p>

		<p>
			"If human remains had been found they would have been carefully removed with all due dignity, under the 2017 regulations set out by English Heritage and the Church of England, and under a licence from the coroner at the Ministry of Justice. Any remains would have been re-buried on site, with due reverence, in an area set aside that would not be affected by the construction works."
		</p>

		<p>

		</p>
	</div>
</blockquote>

<p>
	As for the gravestones, they are to be reburied at the site, this time properly laid down flat to help conserve them for future generations to find should the site ever be dug again.

<p>
	The chapel was founded in 1815 and closed in 1962, older readers may recall that in the early 1960s stories appeared in the local press that local children had broken into the crypts  and had opened coffins, stealing jewellery, even stories of local kids playing football with skulls! which I find hard to believe!

	During the summer holidays there may be temptation for young people to get involved in activities that can seem like harmless fun, but often they can carry serious consequences. Safe4Summer aims to ensure young people can relax and enjoy their holidays in the safest way possible for themselves and for others.

<p><img src="https://archive.salford.media/uploads/monthly_2019_07/alanherohenning.jpg.de062fdddfddc2a0d4d7967fd36fed8c.jpg" /></p>

<p>
	As you may recall, a few weeks back it was suggested on SalfordOnline's Facebook Group that a petition be put to the council to get a much loved and respected hero a permanent and fitting memorial which will immortalise Salford's most heroic son forever.
</p>

<p>
	Alan Henning came to lose his life after being callously and inhumanely murdered as he sought to relieve the pain and suffering of a people he did not know, he did not see race or religion, colour or ethnicity, he just saw people hurting and crying out for help, and so off he rode with a truck full of supplies to try and ease their suffering. His heroic actions brought aid to countless people who would have otherwise suffered greatly and so it is the duty of this City to ensure that his bravery and determination to do the best he could to help others is never forgotten.
</p>

<p>
	With this in mind we have had a petition running for the past few weeks and thanks to reports and publicity from our united local media, the tally currently stands at 1,816 but I truly believe that before Friday, Salford can do better and raise that number even higher.
</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.change.org/p/salford-mayor-let-us-have-recognition-for-salford-s-finest-son" ipsnoembed="true" rel="external nofollow">https://www.change.org/p/salford-mayor-let-us-have-recognition-for-salford-s-finest-son</a>
</p>

<p>
	We need to send a message loud and clear to those who can make this happen and ensure that it gets done.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks to the amazing work of Eccles Councillor, Sharmina August, we have secured the complete backing of the entire Council who are united in supporting this bid to get a road, public space or public building named in his honour.
</p>

<p>
	Sharmina has been amazing with her support for this cause and just a few weeks back, she delivered a letter calling for action which was counter signed by all of the Cities Councillors, our local MP's as well as our City Mayor.
</p>

<p>
	The letter called upon Cllr Derek Antrobus, lead member for for planning and sustainable development, to make it happen, and he wholeheartedly agreed it should.
</p>

<p>
	Work continues in the background to find a suitable permanent and lasting memorial which can be dedicated to Alan, the preferred option being a road named 'Alan Henning Way' to be dedicated in his honour.
</p>

<p>
	The letter states:
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">
	<div class="ipsQuote_citation">
		Quote
	</div>

	<div class="ipsQuote_contents ipsClearfix">
		<p>
			“The people of Salford are united in wanting to honour Alan’s memory; he is an inspiration that future generations of Salfordians will remember with pride.
		</p>

		<p>
			“Alan’s abiding heroism deserves to be immortalised in his home city, which, to this day carries in his heart. If each of us approached life the same way Alan Henning did, the world would be a kinder more decent place.
		</p>

		<p>
			“We the undersigned, call on Salford City Council to name a road in Eccles, Alan Henning Way.”
		</p>
	</div>
</blockquote>

<p>
	To drive into danger in order to aid others, as many flea to safety from that danger, is the most noble thing to do. Alan is an inspiration to us all and he truly does represent the best of us, he encapsulates the true spirit of what it is to be a proud Salfordian and it is our duty to ensure that neither he or his bravery are ever forgotten in this City.
</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://www.change.org/p/salford-mayor-let-us-have-recognition-for-salford-s-finest-son" ipsnoembed="true" rel="external nofollow">https://www.change.org/p/salford-mayor-let-us-have-recognition-for-salford-s-finest-son</a>
</p>

<p>
	So please share the link above, sign the petition and help us get the man the recognition he deserves.
</p>

<p>
	The petition will be printed over the weekend and it will be delivered to Swinton Civic Centre on the morning of Monday the 15th of July, the petition will then be presented to council on Wednesday the 17th of July.
</p>

<p>
	I really can not thank Cllr August enough, she had worked extremely hard on galvanising support at lightening speed, without her input and the countless hours that she has put into this, it simply would not be anywhere close to this stage so soon.
</p>

<p>
	Sharmina is a recent addition to the ranks of the Council having been elected to serve Eccles in May's local elections but she has certainly made her mark already and has followed in Alan's footstep and showed the true Spirit of Salford in support of the community she serves.
</p>

<p>
	I would like to end this by giving special mention to Alan's family, they have remained stoic and resolute, dignified and strong throughout, they have retained composure at the most difficult and challenging time of their lives. They have shown the same strength and bravery that Alan has and so on behalf of the people of Salford, this is as much for you as it is Alan.
</p>

<p>
	You have our utmost respect and like Alan you are forever in our hearts.

	Shortly before 8:10 am, police received information that a body had been found on a patch of wooded area close to Eccles Old Road.
</p>

<p>
	A murder investigation has now been launched after police say the body was found wrapped in what appears to be plastic.

	Council Officers gave the recommendation earlier this week to pass the 209 home development which developer 'Bellway' want to build upon the former playing fields of St Georges Catholic School in Walkden.

<p>
	However, it was revealed that important documents were left unavailable to view on the Councils planning portal due to an I.T. Glitch, councillors decided to defer the decision until later in the month to allow time for the documents to be properly reviewed.

<p>
	This is now the second time that the decision has been postponed, having been already deferred in May this year.
