The Met Office has issued a yellow snow alert and a yellow ice alert for today and tomorrow so try and avoid both if you can.

Most of Salford will have heavy rain for a time, although this is likely to fall as snow especially over higher ground, with significant accumulations in places. Very windy with gales. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Icy patches are expected to develop on Thursday night and Friday morning on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, icebergs on the ship canal and polar bears roaming local parks, the usual stuff.

Stay safe folks and remember as always to avoid the yellow snow.

Councils were given new powers from April this year under The Housing and Planning Act 2016 which introduced civil penalties of up to £30,000 as an alternative to prosecution for certain offences under The Housing Act 2004.

Salford City Council housing officers used a warrant to enter the house on Great Cheetham Street East on June 30 after the lounge ceiling collapsed and a tenant complained of overcrowding at the property.

They found the house had been licensed in 2015 for five tenants but nine people were living there – and it was infested with cockroaches. The dining room had been converted into a bedroom and two men were sharing a room upstairs. Seven of the tenants were claiming local housing allowance which was being paid directly to the managing agent.

One of the licensing conditions was that the licence itself should be on display in the property but that was not being done.

Other breaches of HMO regulations were also found which, along with the collapsed ceiling, may lead to further council action.

The owner was interviewed and said the property was fully managed by her agent and she had only looked at the licence after council officers visited the property. She did not know it was an offence to allow more people to live there than the licence stated, nor that the licence should be displayed on the premises. She had not given her managing agent a copy of the licence as he told her he had all the documents he needed.

The owner was issued with a £3,500 penalty notice.

Councillor Tracy Kelly, lead member for housing and sustainable neighbourhoods, said homeowners who rented out property directly or through a managing agent needed to ‘check and double check’ that everything was being done properly.

Many had prayed that the end to the Bridge Madness came soon and it seems the big G was listening and a miracle granted.

The bridge was scheduled to open between 1pm and 2pm but opened a little before 3pm, but errrr better late than never? eh?

I was there of course, sat like an sore thumb awaiting the green light to drive across, and as soon as the lights hit green they ummm turned red again. But that never spoiled the fun as in the end we were 6th to go across the bridge and a mighty historic journey it was.

For years the people of Irlam and Cadishead have suffered huge problems with congestion, it is hoped this new crossing will help alleviate those issues and speed up journey times. Some however remain skeptical and think that it will have little impact on reducing what has become for many a nightly nightmare whilst trying to get in and out of the area.

In the end and without much of a real fanfare the bridge was declared 'OPEN' and cars were finally allowed to cross it, we did check for Trolls and Tolls and none were present so it seems safe enough, it is actually a really nice journey and i can see it cutting down times in and out of Trafford quite a lot, if Trafford actually deals with the problems around the Trafford Centre that is..

"Lacie was a little diva, she loved to dance. There was always music on in the house and Lacie would always be dancing to it. Her teachers said she would ask to go to the toilet then dance out of the classroom and down the corridor.

"Little Lia loved Peppa Pig. She called everyone pig, so Mummy Pig, Demi Pig, Brandon Pig and Lacie Pig. She even called herself Lia pig. She was so cute and the older ones doted on her.

"Demi had a beautiful relationship with Lia. They would spend so much time together, Demi would sit in Lia’s bed watching Peppa Pig with her.

"Their mum Michelle is in a critical condition. We are dreading the day we have to tell them the awful news about her babies. We hope and pray that she has the strength to pull through. We are asking people to keep Michelle in their thoughts, she has lost her babies and it is heart breaking but she has a loving family who will try their best to get her through this and two older sons who adore her.

"The community have been incredible, the response and love we’ve had has been overwhelming. We have not even begun to look through all the messages and cards we’ve received, but we will one day.

"We want to thank you so much for all of the flowers, the toys, the fundraising, it all means so much.

"The people of Salford have been amazing, but people from all over have sent us messages.

"Right now, all we can do is hold each other together as a family. This will not break us."

This proposal would potentially affect parents of nursery aged children and post-16 education students. There will be no request for an annual contribution from those parents of students aged 5-16 years who use council provided transport to school.

We have written to all parents currently using transport to notify them of the proposals, as they may wish to express a view if access to transport to school/college post 16 is a potential future plan.

In addition, the proposal to extend the travel training programme will involve students who are in Year 9 and above who can undertake the training. Salford City Council currently operates a successful travel training programme for students with an EHCP. We would like to build on this success by employing additional trainers in the city to extend the training to more students in the future. All assessments of student’s capabilities are conducted in full consultation with students, parents/carers and school staff. We do understand that this type of independent travel training will not be suitable for all our students due to varying levels of need.

As some parents have said they have only just become aware of these proposals, we have extended the consultation until Friday 15 December 2017 to give those parents time to submit their views if they wish to do so.

“Although no formal identification has taken place, the children are believed to be 14-year-old Demi Pearson, 8-year-old Brandon Pearson and 7-year-old Lacie Pearson. Their mum and 3-year-old little sister are still fighting for their lives in hospital.

Tragic news this afternoon as it revealed during a press briefing held at Swinton police station, that a 14-year-old girl was declared dead at the scene of the fire and unfortunately an 8 year old boy and a 7 year old girl have later died in hospital.

We are told the 35 year old mother of the children along with a 3 year old daughter are fighting for life in Salford Royal hospital. The mother is said to be heavily sedated and does not yet know of the deaths of the children.

2 teenagers have been said to have escaped the blaze but at the moment it is unclear as to their condition.

The fire is said to have started around 5am this morning and fire services were quickly on scene to bring the blaze under control.

It is being reported that police are conducting one line of investigation into the possibility of a flammable liquid being poured through the letter box of the property, but this is yet to be confirmed.

It is also being said that police were earlier called to an incident involving a wheelie bin being set alight at the home.

This tragedy comes just a few weeks before Christmas and locals in the area have spoke of their heartbreak at what has happened in their community.

Police cordons remain in place as they continue with their forensic examinations and Manchester Fire remain to ensure that all pockets of fire remain extinguished.

	Between 09:35 Fri 8th and 18:00 Sat 9th

Snow showers will continue to affect parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, northern England and parts of the Midlands. 2-5 cm of snow is likely in places over the warning area. 10-20 cm is possible for some locations, mainly in northern Scotland, Northern Ireland, north Wales and perhaps the northwest Midlands. Icy surfaces are also likely to be an additional hazard, especially overnight. The heaviest and most frequent snow showers will progressively become confined to northeast Scotland during Saturday. Impacts include possible travel delays on roads stranding some vehicles and passengers with possible delays and cancellations to rail and air travel. Some rural communities could be cut off and power supplies interrupted. Probably some icy stretches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths and also a chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy and snowy surfaces.

	Between 04:00 Sun 10th and 18:00 Sun 10th

A spell of heavy snow is likely over parts of Wales, the Midlands and parts of Northern England on Sunday. Road, rail and air travel delays are likely, as well as stranding of vehicles and public transport cancellations. There is a good chance that some rural communities could become cut off.

People are being advised to stay indoors when and where possible, also if you have any elderly neighbours please check on them to ensure they are safe and well.
