The UK low cost supermarket chain has submitted proposals for its new store that it is hoped will regenerate the area around Mocha Parade in Lower Broughton which was built in the 1970's.

If approved by Salford City Council it will become the 14th store within Greater Manchester as the chain expands across the country.

Subject to approval, work on the store will start later this year with demolition of the existing building, erection of the store and extensive landscaping, as the area is known to attract wild birds including water-foul.

The plans include what is described as a flood basin along with a wild flower meadow which should provide an area for the local wildlife as well as become a focal point in the area. The store will be built upon a flood plain and has seen flooding in recent years but the opening of a new flood basin and wetlands in Kersal has been a huge game-changer for the area as it has provided protection to local homes and businesses.

In Feb 2020 the newly opened flood basin was put to the test during the worst of storm Ciara, a test it passed with flying colours.

When opened the multi million pound investment will provide around 40 jobs in the local area with a further 40 jobs to be created at another store in Castle Irwell.
