The Royal Mail are proposing to move Walkden Central Post Office within the Ellesmere Shopping Centre to the nearby Rashid’s retail store at 23a Bolton Road, Worsley, Manchester, M28 3AX where it would be run by a new retail partner and be known as Walkden Post Office.

If the move goes ahead the branch will have extended opening hours including Saturday afternoon.

This move is part of the continuing modernisation of the Royal Mail's branch network.

They believe it to be the most effective way to secure the long term viability of Post Office services in Walkden and have carefully selected a retail partner, they are confident that their proposal is the best way of safeguarding services for the community for years to come.

The vast majority of the Royal Mail's 11,500 Post Office branches, large and small, are said to be successfully operated in this way with retail partners and they believe this is the best approach to keeping Post Offices in main shopping locations and at the heart of communities where they play an important role in local economies.
