  • SALFORD RUM AND SALFORD LADS CLUB PARTNER FOR CHARITY EDITION RUM

    Business News

Indie craft drinks brand Salford Rum has partnered with the iconic Salford Lads Club to
launch a charity edition bottle of their Original Spiced Rum.

Strictly limited to 1500 bottles, individually numbered in batches of 300, this unique bottle
design by Manchester artist Dave Draws features landmarks, events and memories for
which Salford Lads Club is famed - including The Smiths iconic photo from The Queen is
Dead album, doodled in Dave Draws unmistakable style.

The partnership aims to raise £7500 for Salford Lads Club, which opened in 1903 by
brewers and brothers James and William Grimble Groves, as a club for working lads.

The club in Ordsall, Salford still serves the young people of the community to this day, and now
welcomes girls as well as boys. It continues to host activities including football, cooking,
boxing, arts and crafts, and an annual summer camp.

The bottle launches at 8pm Thursday 20th October, at salfordrum.com for £45 with a £5
donation to Salford Lads Club included with each purchase.

Upon the launch of the new bottle, James Harrison, Director of Salford Rum said:

    “Since
launching Salford Rum we have tried to work closely with the local community, from sourcing
ingredients to charity partnerships, such as our Salford Pride Edition Rum. Working with The
Salford Lads Club has been an ambition since day one. We have so much respect for what
they do for the community and for how long they have been doing it. To be able to contribute
to the club in this small way, via the launch of our Lads Club Edition rum bottle is something
    we’re really delighted about.”

Anthony Groves, President of Salford Lads Club, Chair of Trustees and great great grandson
    of James Grimble Groves said:

    Quote

“Of course, our club was originally established out of my
family’s Salford based brewery Groves and Whitnall, which was at its peak in the mid to late
1800’s; to now be partnering with and supported by Salford Rum on this limited edition
product release - that also carries the same distinctive red rose of our beer - is simply history
    in the re-making.”

The Salford Rum Company was created in 2018 when James Harrison and Tommy
Gaughan – rugby league-playing high school friends - took inspiration from the growing gin
category and set out to make a local premium rum that would rival the luxury gin products on
    the market.

Salford Rum’s premium spiced rums are created as a passionate celebration of the history,
heritage and people of Salford Docks in Greater Manchester throughout the late 1800’s and
early 1900’s. An era whereby the city’s Salford Docks grew to be the third largest port in the
UK, the spirits take inspiration from the rums, fruits, and spices from the Caribbean which
were landing on British shores for the first time.
