Santander has announced that it is to close 111 branches up and down the country by the end of August this year and two branches in Salford are facing the axe.
The Spanish-owned money lender said that the 'majority' of branches facing closure were under three miles from another Santander branch, with the furthest being just five miles away.
It said that all of the 111 closing branches were within half a mile of at least two free-to-use cash machines.
Branches in Swinton and Walkden are just two of the swathes being axed.
The branch in Swinton is set to close on the 1st of July , whilst the Walkden branch is set closure even earlier on the 24th of June.
The Eccles branch based on the local shopping precinct was closed back in March 2018, whilst the branch located within the University of Salford, Manchester, Lady Hale Building was permanently closed after a temporary closure in March 2020.
This effectively leaves Salford without it's own branch of the bank with closest now being over the City border in neighbouring Manchester.
