The Castle Irwell site formerly occupied by University of Salford's student village, is set to see a third stage of the £120m campus redevelopment come to a close with an additional 104 houses built.

Overall 367 homes will be built on the land owned by SalBoy which is 133 shy of the 500 homes which were originally given outline consent for by council planners.

The site is bordered by Littleton Road and Cromwell Road and is close by to the the £10m Second Salford Flood Basin which acts as a wildlife sanctuary for both local and migrating bird species.

In August of 2022, Lidl's plans to build a 23,500 sq ft supermarket as part of the development were dashed by after the council claimed it would “weaken the positive and high-quality urban design attributes of the emerging neighbourhood”.
