  • 16 YEAR OLD BOY CHARGED ON SUSPICION OF BEING INVOLVED IN MOTORBIKE PHONE SNATCHES

    Good Evening,

    Police have charged a 16 year old male who was arrested after he was questioned over a spate of phone thefts from unsuspecting pedestrians by youths on motorcycles over the past few months.

    Only last week a young girl was targeted on Langworthy Road and her phone snatched, a few days earlier another lady had her phone stolen whilst in Buile Hill Park.

    The suspect was apprehended after police gave chase aided by the forces helicopter through the streets of Salford and alongside the river Irwell yesterday (08/09/18).

    Police moved in after the youth was spotted riding a bike thought to be involved in at least 8 of the attacks along Cromwell Road.

    GMP officers say that they have been working throughout last night and today to secure a charge and can confirm that a 16 year old male has now been charged with a number of offences, including:

    1. Going equipped for theft.
    2. Breach a criminal behaviour order.
    3. Use a motor vehicle on a road / public place without insurance.
    4. Drive whilst disqualified.
    5. Attempt theft from person.
    6. Theft from person.
    7. Aggravated vehicle taking

    The youth has been remanded in custody over night before appearing in court in the morning.
