  • A 20-YEAR-OLD MAN FROM WALKDEN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH ASSAULT AFTER A 4-MONTH-OLD BABY WAS ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL IN A CRITICAL CONDITION

    Hospital staff alerted the police after becoming concerned over injuries to a four-month-old baby boy brought into hospital requiring medical assistance in the early hours of Sunday morning.

    A man and a woman from Salford were both originally arrested on suspicion of assault.

    The man named as 20-year-old Benjamin Welsh, of Whittle Grove, Walkden, has now been charged with section 18 assault ad detained to appear in court later today 12th of August.

    The incident happened shortly after midnight on Sunday 9th of August. The child was found and still remains in a critical condition.

    A GMP Spokesperson said:

    "A man has been charged in connection with life-threatening injuries sustained by a baby boy from Salford.

    "Benjamin Welsh (21/12/1999) of Whittle Grove, Walkden has been charged with section 18 assault.

    "He has been remanded in custody to appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 12 August 2020.

    "Shortly before 12.30pm on Sunday 9 August 2020, police were called by hospital staff to concerns over the injuries of a baby boy who had been brought in for medical assistance.

    "The 4-month-old baby remains in a critical condition."
