    Police are investigating after a man was hospitalised after being stabbed following a fight involving youths in Kersal.

    The incident is said to have happened on Grindon Avenue in Kersal around 6:45pm on Friday.

    Police arrived on scene to find a 58 year old man suffering from injuries consistent with a stabbing. A 17 year old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been detained in custody for further questioning.

    The victims condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

    In a statement a spokesperson for GM said,

    "Police were called at around 6.45pm on Friday 5 July 2019 to Grindon Avenue in Kersal to reports that a man had been stabbed.

    "It was further reported that a fight involving youths had been ongoing shortly before the call was made.

    "A 58-year-old man has been taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

    "Enquiries are ongoing and a 17-year-old boy remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of assault."
