At around 11.30am on Wednesday 23 June police were called to a report of a road traffic collision involving a lorry and two cars on the A57 at Cadishead Way in Irlam.
Emergency services attended and a 62-year-old man and a 39-year-old man were both taken to hospital.
Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the 62-year-old man has since sadly succumbed to his injuries. The 39-year-old man remains in a critical condition.
The driver of the lorry remained at the scene to assist police. No arrests have been made.
Police Constable Karl Horner of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

"Very sadly a man has lost his life following this collision and our thoughts are firmly with his family, friends and loved ones as they begin to process this devastating news.
"We're continuing to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time or witnessed the collision to come forward and speak with police. We're particularly keen to speak to anyone who may be in possession of dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the incident."
Residents at the time called for measures to be taken to stop speeding drivers in the area after a series of accidents along the notorious route.
