    A 20-year-old man arrested in connection with a road traffic collision involving a police car and a Mini Countryman in Pendleton has been released under investigation.

    Police spotted the car – which had previously been reported stolen and was driving around the Pendleton area on false plates – at around 9.30pm on Friday 14 February 2020.

    After the Mini failed to stop for police, a short pursuit took place and the car went the wrong way around Pendleton Island and continued to drive onto Broad Street in the wrong direction before colliding with a second police car.

    The police driver suffered a suspected broken arm and the passenger sustained whiplash.

    Both have since been released from hospital.

    A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and dangerous driving nearby. He was further arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and aggravated vehicle taking without consent.  

    He was taken to custody and questioned by police before being released under investigation.
