The victim, a 30-year-old man, had been in Albert’s Restaurant with a friend before they left and headed towards the car park.
As they walked to their car, an unknown man approached them and shot the victim in the knee.
He was taken to hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for his injury.
The offender, who was dressed in dark clothing, fled the scene in a silver Ford Focus.
Superintendent Howard Millington, of GMP’s Salford borough, said:
Quote“A man who had simply been enjoying his Sunday evening with a friend has been left in hospital with a serious injury after being shot.
“We are treating this as a targeted attack and don’t believe there to be any wider threat to the community, however, you will see increased patrols in the area so please approach these officers with any concerns or queries you may have and they will happily assist you in any way they can.
“This happened in a busy location and I am hopeful that someone will have seen something that could assist our investigation. If you witnessed the attack or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, please get in touch.”
Police remain at the scene this morning as they conduct a forensic examination of the area.
Anyone with any information should call police on 101 quoting reference number 2053 of 04/02/2018, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
