A 27-year-old man is fighting for his life after being shot several times by hitmen on Manton Close in Higher Broughton last night.
The incident happened at around 11pm and is thought to be part of an ongoing turf war between two rival gangs over the supply of drugs in the area as well as other grievances.
There was gunshot damage to a taxi but the owner is not said to be the target and the vehicle just happened to be in the direction that shots were fired.
Several roads were closed with police cordons in the area and there remains a large police presence at the scene, additionally police have stepped up patrols around the area.
Last week police made an arrest linked to the continued gang related violence in the area which is currently subject to a section 60 order allowing officers to stop and search people.
Forensics officers have been collecting evidence from the scene
Police have said that there have been no arrests made and investigations are ongoing.
