Fortunately there were no injuries after an aircraft had to abort it's landing attempt as a firework exploded next to it during descent to the runway. The incident is thought to have happened on Friday 18th October.

The pilot was able to land on the second attempt but the act of utter stupidity has been slammed by airport officials as the outcome could have been a lot worse.

Airport bosses hit out at the dangerous, stupid and irresponsible act so close to the busy airport.

    Quote

"Please can we stress how dangerous, stupid and irresponsible it is to let fireworks off in the close vicinity of an active airport.

"We've just had at least two fireworks set off on underneath our main runway approach, one of which exploded directly next to a landing aircraft which then aborted its landing."
