Congratulations to the irrepressible Keri Muldoon who so very much deservedly won the public vote to take her place as the Spirit of Salford awards 'Citizen Of The Year 2023'.

Miss Muldoon is like a whirlwind, full of energy and enthusiasm for every project she touches, which is why we affectionally refer to her as Typhoon Muldoon at Salford Media, the lady never stops.

The award could not have gone to a better person, she is community minded and is always eager to step in and help on any project. If you could condense everything good about the people of Salford into one package, it would look like Keri.

Upon announcement of her win, Keri took to the stage at the AJ Bell Stadium to rapturous applaud, to be presented with her award by both Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett and Salford's Chief Executive, Tom Stannard.

Keri has been referred to as a one woman early warning system for flooding in Lower Broughton where she lives, having suffered greatly as a result of the historic floods which devastated more than 500 homes in the area back on Boxing Day of 2015.

Keri played an instrumental part in highlighting the problems faced by residents in the area, which prompted the environment agency and the council to spring into action.

Since then she has kept a vigilant watch over the unpredictable waters of the river Irwell and takes to social media at the merest hint that levels are rising to both inform and reassure concerned local residents.

Aside her flood watching role, Keri has raised countless funds for local organisations, organised too many local events to count and even manages to somehow fit in Zumba into her busy schedule.

In 2021 she became the poster girl and an ambassador for the Manchester International Festival which saw her face adorn billboards across the whole of Greater Manchester, her involvement in the festival was invaluable.

She truly is a whirlwind and thoroughly deserves this latest accolade. She embodies everything positive about Salford and is a Salfordian through and through and we applaud her win and say thankyou for all she does.
