Shortly before 10.30pm on Sunday 26 April 2020, police on a routine patrol in Manchester observed a vehicle being driven erratically. The Vauxhall Astra failed to stop when requested. Officers, subsequently, engaged in a short pursuit.
A short time later, the Vauxhall collided with a Toyota Rav 4 on Regent Road at the junction with Oldfield Avenue.
The driver of the Vauxhall, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
An investigation is currently underway.
Police say that no arrests have so far been made.
In line with normal procedure, this incident has been referred to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch. GMP’s Professional Standards Branch made the decision to refer the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
PC Philip Shaw, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“This collision could have resulted in even more serious consequences. Thankfully, the injured man is in a stable condition and no-one else was injured.
“Our investigation is ongoing and I appeal to anyone with information or dash cam footage from the surrounding area at the time of the collision or in the minutes before to get in touch with us.”
