Police were called at 1.50am on Saturday 15 July 2017 to reports that a person was trapped in a black Audi RS3, after being involved in a collision with the rear end of a Mercedes Box van.

The collision happened between junction one and junction two of the M602 westbound in Salford.

Emergency services attended and the 34-year-old driver of the Audi was extracted from the vehicle and taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered minor cuts and bruising.

Road closures were in place for around three-and-a-half hours but have now been lifted and there is no further disruption to traffic in the area.

Police Constable Paul Shore of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “As with any investigation, gathering together all the evidence quickly is vital. This includes witnesses to the collision; we need you to come forward to help us fully establish what happened this morning and how the events leading up to the collision have left a man in hospital.

“Dashcam footage is always a helpful tool in our investigations so I’d urge those in the area at the time to check their footage and get in touch with us.”

Anyone with information should contact GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741 quoting reference number 201 of 15/07/17 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111
