  • BISPHAM CALLING! - THE LEGACY OF LEGENDARY ARTIST RAY LOWRY

    Salford News

Bispham. Cadishead, London Calling.. can you spot the link? it's not that difficult really...

Next time you drive into Irlam have a peep at the fabulous artwork showing eminent local residents on the railway bridge into Irlam Railway Station, amongst them is the late, Ray Lowry not only a fine cartoonist, artist, author but the man responsible for the London Calling Calling album artwork by The Clash from 1979.

Sadly Ray passed away in October 2008 leaving behind him an astounding back catalogue of his work and I am delighted to say that his son, Sam has become the guardian of this and is keeping Ray's memory alive by setting up a website https://raylowry.com/ where you can purchase not only his original cartoons, oil paintings and a series of limited edition prints of astounding quality.

We visited Sam at his home in Bispham to talk about Ray, his upbringing and influences that Ray had on him growing up and how he he is keeping his name alive.
