January this year saw the Installation of new play equipment and surfacing of pathways, new park furniture and soft landscaping went towards further developing this thriving park.
A new bowling green clubhouse was built as well as a multi purpose sports pitch and new outdoor gym equipment.
Councillor David Lancaster, lead member for environment and community safety, said:
Quote“This award is a tribute to the hard work the Friends of Boothsbank Park put into gardening, litter picking and keeping the park looking good with support from Salford City Council.”
Last year’s 400K refurbishment involved constructing a new children’s play park and pavilion which is managed by Boothstown Bowling Club supported by the Friends group which now runs children’s parties there and a fun day to raise revenue for the park.
Since then the Friends have had help from the club, pupils at Walkden High School and the community payback team to buy and plant spring and summer flowers and have been given a herb planter to provide free herbs for the community by Incredible Edibles Education.
And green minded local residents have also helped the group by recycling more of their household waste, winning them funding through Salford City Council’s Recycling Rewards scheme.
Boothsbank Park now joins four other parks - Blackleach Country Park, Clifton Country Park, Victoria Park and Winton Park – and Peel Green cemetery which have kept their Green Flag status for another year.
