A 'so far' unnamed cut price supermarket chain has its sights firmly aimed on Worsley as part of a proposed much larger retail area.
Earlier this week it was announced that O'Flannigan Construction based upon the Wirral, was aiming to submit planning permission to build a medium sized 'precinct' complex on land it has acquired close to Worsley Woods.
If given the go ahead by the local council it would see eight retail units and up to 56 new jobs created in the area.
So far it said that there has been interest from a local budget supermarket chain of the likes of Aldi or Lidl that plans to take up 2 units for a new store at the prime location.
A charity shop and food-bank operated by the upper church of later-day saints is also looking at taking a unit.
A smaller unit at the entrance to the site would make a perfect fast food drive-thru opportunity a spokesperson said.
Earlier this week a source within O'Flannigan Construction told us:
Quote
"We have had plans for this in play for almost 5 years and we have been given good signs so far that permission to build will be given.
"O'Flynnagains are a huge national construction company with its roots in Dublin and acquired the land with a view to creating a much needed local retail space in what is seen as a high status area.
"We have had interest from a local charity but as yet contracts have not been signed.
"Our company has been in talks with a local German super market chain and we feel that it would hugely benefit the area and give a boost not only to the local economy but also to house prices in the area.
"We look forward to working with the local people in Worsley to make this a reality."
Additionally the company have also set out plans for a call centre to be built on land in nearby Roe Green.
We will have more on this story if it develops.
