The early hours of this morning saw firefighters tackling a blaze at the derelict union building in the park grounds.

The fire was quickly brought under control and it is thought to have been started deliberately.

No damage was done to the historic Georgian greenhouse or the listed mansion house itself.

Fire services have left and workers are currently onsite making the building secure again.

One lady on Social Media said that

    Quote

"There were kids walking around the site the other night, they had gotten onto the roof"

This comes just days after a similar fire ripped through an out building at the former site of St Lukes CofE primary school little over a mile away on Eccles New Road, and just over eight months after another similar fire did irreparable damage to another building on the same site.

It has been reported that there were no casualties and the fire is now out.
