Police are currently on scene and people are being told to avoid the area around blackfriars and the lowry hotel until the incident is dealt with.
A police spokesperson has said:
Quote"Shortly before 4pm on Monday 12 March 2018 police were called to report of a suspicious item on a building site by Clowes Street and Chapel Street in Ordsall.
"Bomb disposal experts are making their way to the scene and a 100m cordon has been put in place which includes areas around the Lowry Hotel."
