Police were called to Salford Quays at around 7:30pm on Friday 22 September 2023.

When officers arrived at the scene it was established that a man, the victim in his 30s, had been assaulted by a group of males with metal poles causing serious but thankfully not life-threatening injuries.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning at this time.

Detective Sergeant James Walsh of GMP's Salford CID branch, said:

"This is an attack that has caused significant injuries to the victim and, after launching an investigation and conducting enquiries over the weekend, we are now in a position to appeal for any witnesses that may have seen this assault, as it happened in a busy part of Salford Quays on Friday evening.

"We have arrested a person in connection with this, but we are keen to speak to people to understand further what happened as well as gain access to any additional evidential opportunities through CCTV, dashcam footage or mobile recordings to assist with our enquiries which are ongoing at this stage.

"If anyone has any information that may help with the investigation, they are asked to call 0161 856 5345 or 101 quoting incident number 3268 of 22/09/2023."

Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
