At around 12:40pm (Sunday 27 October 2019) Police, Fire and Ambulances were called to the scene of a horrific accident in which a dark Silver BMW car appears to have crashed through the barrier at the roundabout on Broad Street in Pendleton after colliding with a piece of street furniture.

The vehicle came to a rest on its side in the underpass at the opening of one of the subway tunnels.

It is thought that two occupants (a male and a female) were recovered from the vehicle by passers-by before medics arrived but police have not yet issued further details regarding their well-being. They were treated by NWAS at the scene before being taken to a nearby hospital via ambulance.

Roads in the area will closed for several hours and bus services and motor vehicles have been diverted along alternative routes. Drivers are being asked to avoid Pendleton roundabout if possible due to traffic delays around the scene.
