A huge emergency service response took place close to a rail bridge at Kelso Place on the Salford border with Manchester at around 8:05am this morning.
Police erected a cordon as forensics officers focused their investigations around the bridge with the aid of the Fire & Ambulance services.
Steps which lead to a path alongside the river Irwell had been taped off and there were reports of what appeared to be a search boat in the water along the stretch of the river.
Tragically police have reported that they recovered a body from the River Irwell after being called with a report of concern for the welfare of the individual.
Police say that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
GMP have now released a statement:
Quote

"Emergency services attended, and sadly a body was found. Enquiries are ongoing but the circumstances surrounding the persons death is not being treated as suspicious."
As always in these circumstances we offer our sincere condolences to the persons family and friends.
