I took a walk through the mainly empty aisles of the Wilko Store, Eccles today ahead of it's closure this Thursday.
It has been serving Eccles for about 20 years that I can remember then before that Morrisons, International Stores and even a store called believe it or not, Giro! and how can we forget when it was used in Coronation Street with Curly Watts and Reg Holdsworth as The Bettabuy Store...
Some 400 Wilko store nationwide will shut despite hopes it could be saved by a last minute buyer, sadly to avail but I did my bit today buying half price stationery and picture frames along with a few other shoppers looking for a bargain.
I can only think the winner from all this will be West One and stores like The Range and B and M, but that can be a distance if you have no transport as it entails crossing busy main roads.
Lets see what the future brings and lets try and not be too negative in the next few days of trading.
