  • FALSE ALARM AFTER REPORTS OF AN UNEXPLODED WW2 BOMB ON THE SITE OF FRYERS DEMOLITION ECCLES

    Salford News

There were reports of as possible unexploded bomb having been uncovered by contractors working on the Church Street demolition of the old Fryers Store this morning.

Police acted quickly to cordon off the area at the top of Church Street to pedestrians and there were also talks of closing the nearby motorway and railway lines as safety precautions.

Specialists attended along with other emergency services, whereupon it was very quickly established that it was a false alarm, with the alleged bomb apparently just a section of pipework.

People were being advised not to venture into that area of Eccles, but the cordon has now been lifted and the emergency response has been stepped down.
