A green Vauxhall Astra was suspected as having caught on fire after a collision with a van and two cars on Trinity Way this morning, this however was a false alarm as it was not on fire when fire crews arrived on scene.

Fortunately none of the occupants of the vehicles were seriously injured and the driver of the Astra had been able to self rescue himself.

Police have so far made no arrests.

There were considerable delays in the area during the incident but these have now cleared and the road reopened to traffic.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said:

"The collision involved a green Vauxhall Astra, a van and a grey Mercedes.

    "No reports of injuries."
