In previous articles we have sung the praises of Salford's premier genealogist, Glenn Kennedy and his work both on television shows as a researcher but also his meticulously researched work on family tree history. he did mine and traced family as far back in the 1720s in Ireland.
Glenn kindly suggested to us that he would do a full family tree search for the person who made the highest bid for his services, his normal fee is around £380 and he would donate the money to good causes in Salford, preferably foodbanks in the local area.
The eventual winner was Joan Fielder with a bid of £420, and then Glenn has chipped in a further £30 to round it up to a staggering £450!
Not content with this magnificent gesture he revealed his future plans to us.
Quote
"I am so pleased that my work has raised this money for these urgent causes that I have decided that I shall do a further two family ancestry searches in time for Christmas and, fingers crossed we may reach the £1,000 figure with the money again being used to help the less fortunate in Salford.
A Christmas Party for the elderly would be a good thing, this is only an idea of mine but I shall leave the distribution of any money raised with Tony and Carl at Salford Media"
With the £450 we have from Glenn, we propose to give £100 to The Emmanuel Church Foodbank, Langworthy Road, £100 to the Eccles Unemployed Resource Center, Breakfast Club and £50 to St Ann's Hospice via John Brierley's 10,000Km Charity Walk.
This leaves us with £200 to be distributed to local foodbanks or good causes, and this is where you come in, do you have any suggestions who would benefit from a share of this money, a small local foodbank or breakfast club? we do know that Cornerstone, Salford have a Food Club which helps out local people, do you know of others?
If so could you please contact us at newsdesk@salford.media
Finally a massive thank you to Glenn Kennedy for his continued support and generosity a proper nice bloke and if you want your family tree researched and presented in a full keepsake book/file, with full research done on your Ancestors including all census including the forthcoming 1921, plus event reports and original documents, then this is the ideal present.
