During a press conference held this afternoon, Greater Manchester Police have named the teenager who was murdered during a brutal attack shortly after 8pm last night (Weds 21st April).
Police say that 17-year-old Josiah Norman was run over by a car then brutally attacked with weapons by the vehicles occupants before being fatally stabbed in the chest. Police discovered two vehicles thought to be involved in the attack, set alight not far from the scene.
Superintendent Glenn Jones, said that It is thought that the terrible attack was targeted as the result of a dispute:
QuoteOur thoughts are with Josiah’s family and loved ones and our specialist officers are working closely to support them at this utterly devastating time.
This is shocking incident and one that will understandably cause concern in the local area.
I would like to reassure the public that we have a number of scenes in place, here, on Stowell Street, and also Montford Steet where two vehicles were recovered, having suffered fire damage, that are believed to be linked to the investigation. We also have a significant number of high-visibility patrols in the area, and they will remain in the area going into the weekend.
Officers in Salford, alongside partners, have worked a great deal to reduce serious crime in the city, and while progress has been made, this devastating incident shows how our ongoing work must not relent.
I urge anyone with worries or concerns to speak to our officers in confidence and to share any information they may have that could aid our investigation. We know there were witnesses to this horrific incident, and we urge anyone with information to come forward by calling police, report it online, or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, in order to bring those responsible to justice for Josiah's family.
Police were also called to a home on Stowell Street after being informed of another youth having been stabbed in the arm. Officers attended and a 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being held in police custody.
So far there have been 2 arrests made on suspicion of murder and a further 2 arrests made on charges that the police have not yet disclosed.
A GoFundMe page to help with funeral costs has been set up for Josiah which can be found below, floral tributes have also been left at the scene by friends and family as well as neighbours.

The murder has rocked the otherwise quiet road in Weaste which remains cordoned off and is expected to stay that was for at least the next 24 hours if not longer as police continue to gather evidence.
Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 2921 of April 21; or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
