FOUR MEN JAILED OVER ECCLES SHOOTING

Robert White (25/04/96) of Crowngreen Road, Eccles has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Lewis Gerrand (20/07/1992) of Springside Avenue, Walkden has been sentenced to 5 years and 3 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit a Section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

Billy White (12/12/1999) of Crowngreen Road, Eccles has been sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit a section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

David White (19/09/1968) of Crowngreen Road, Eccles has been sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of an offensive weapon.

At around 10.30pm on Wednesday 3 April 2019, Robert White shot at the victim and three others as they sat stationary in a car on Crowngreen Road in Eccles.

Lewis Gerrand was the driver of the vehicle in which Robert and Billy White were in at the time.

As part of their investigation, officers established that Lewis Gerrand and Billy White were seen to get out of the same vehicle wielding machetes in the direction of the victim’s vehicle immediately after the incident – with Lewis Gerrand proceeding to throw a machete at the same car.

CCTV enquiries conducted by detectives established that David White was then seen to approach the scene of the shooting from the direction of his home address whilst holding a machete in each hand.

Detective Sergeant Chris Smith, of GMP’s Salford division, said:

“This was an appalling incident which left the victim having to undergo surgery. Thankfully, he was not more seriously injured and thanks to the effort from medical professionals has been able to recover.

“However, that does not mean to say we should downplay the severity of this crime. These four men showed absolutely no compassion when they chose to act so recklessly last April and prison is exactly where they each belong.

“I absolutely welcome today’s result and hope it sends a clear message to the people of Salford – as well as the rest of Greater Manchester – we will not tolerate such offending on our streets and will do everything possible to make our communities a safer place.”
