    Firefighters from Eccles and Salford were called at 8.20am this morning (Monday, May 22), following the explosion within a first-floor-flat. 

    Station Manager Mark Wilson, who is at the scene, said:

    “On arrival firefighters discovered windows blown out of the flat where the explosion occurred. 

    “North West Ambulance Service also attended the incident and dealt with the occupier of the flat who is believed to be suffering from shock.” 

     

     

    Firefighters used specialist kit, including a thermal imaging camera, to ensure the scene was safe, before leaving the incident at approximately 10.20am.

    The cause of the explosion was accidental, due to a a cylinder in a camping stove heating up.

    The man is approximately 50-years-old. The affected flat and two others have been evacuated as a precaution.

    The fire engine has now left but investigators remain at the scene to carry out further checks.
