I just wanted to make this post to keep the memory of Alan (Gadget) very much alive in the public consciousness.
He would have been 51 years old today.
Father-of-two Alan Henning, a taxi driver from Eccles, travelled to the war-torn region with charity workers in December 2013 but was kidnapped and subsequently executed in the most barbaric way possible by Islamic State fundamentalist fighters the following October.
He lived his life helping others in need and was in Syria delivering an ambulance full of medical supplies to refugees at the time he was taken.
An inspiration to us all and a reflection of what it really means to be a Salfordian, he was the best of us.
If you can, raise a glass in remembrance of a local hero this evening.
