On International Women’s Day 8th March shoppers at Swinton Asda will be able to learn the latest news for women born in the 1950s about their case for compensation regarding changes to their state pension age.
Members of the Salford and Eccles Women Against State Pension Injustice (WASPI) Campaign will be running an information stand to answer questions and give out leaflets and flowers.
Campaign Co-ordinator Judith Robertson explained:
Quote“We will be celebrating International Women’s Day by making sure as many women as possible understand how they are affected by a recent ruling by the Ombudsman.
“The Ombudsman has ruled that it was maladministration when 1950s-born women were not given proper notice that we would have to wait several years longer to get our State Pension. A cross-party committee of MPs has already recommended we get compensation at the highest level the Ombudsman can recommend. Some 5,000 women in our area are affected by this ruling and need to understand what is happening.
“WASPI women need politicians of all parties to work together to give us fair and fast compensation. Thousands of 1950s women have already died before reaching their new pension age. We really can't wait much longer.”
Anyone interested in finding out more can meet the WASPI women at their stand in Swinton Asda on Tuesday March 8th between 10.00 and 15.00.
