A prisoner has died at the Category B HMP Forrest Bank prison in Agecroft, triggering an independent investigation into the circumstances behind his death.

The prisoners family have been informed of his death which is said to have happened yesterday (Friday 17th June).

No further details have been released and the investigation is ongoing.

A spokesperson for Forest Bank said:

    Quote

"We can confirm that a HMP Forest Bank prisoner died on Friday 17 June 2022.

"The next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with the family. As with all deaths in custody, there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman and therefore we are unable to comment further at this stage."

This latest death comes less than a month after a damning report was released by HM Inspectorate of Prisons, which questioned the prisons ability to fulfil its role with success.
