At 4pm on Saturday 29 April 2017 police were called to St Edmunds Walk, Little Hulton, to a report of an attempted sexual assault on two girls aged 10 and 11.
They were followed by a man in what is believed to be a silver car who then got out and approached the girls in an alleyway before trying to sexually assault them.
The girls screamed and the man fled the scene.
He is described as being in his 20's, slim build, short curly ginger hair with shaved sides and was wearing a grey hoody.
An investigation has been launched and officers are providing support to the girls and their families.
Detective Sergeant Wendy Grace, of GMP's Salford borough, said: "This is a worrying incident which will understandably cause concern in the community.
"The girls have been left extremely shaken and specialist officers are supporting them and their families at this difficult time.
"We have increased local patrols and have a dedicated team conducting extensive enquiries to find the man responsible.
"If you were in the area in the late afternoon and noticed anything suspicious or saw a man matching this description potentially driving a silver car, then please contact us.
"I am particularly keen to speak to a woman who we believe was walking her dog around the time of the incident who may have vital information."
