Emergency services responded after members of the public raised concerns over the welfare of a man on the Barton High Level Bridge which spans the Manchester ship canal between Junction 10 and 11 of the M60 motorway.

One lane of the clockwise carriageway was closed by police last night (23rd July) at around 9pm but sadly the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A vehicle was seen being recovered from the bridge shortly afterwards and all lanes were reopened.
