As revellers across Salford celebrated and rang in the New Year, Greater Manchester Police were contacted by staff members at Salford Royal Hospital at around 2:15am this morning (Weds 1st Jan 2020), after a 24-year-old man self-presented himself at A&E having sustained a stab wound during an altercation on Eccles Old Road, close to the Royal Sovereign public house.
The man remains in hospital and is said to be in a stable condition with what are described as life threatening injuries.
No arrests have so far been made and a police cordon remains in place.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
The junction between Lancaster Road & Eccles Old Road was cordoned off as too was Stott Lane but this was soon scaled back to the pub and a section of pavement along the frontage.
Police remain at the scene this morning as further investigations are carried out.
