A man who scaled a crane on Chapel Street and mounted a protest for five days over an alleged cover up of a racist attack by police has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage as well as a racially aggravated public order offence and aggravated trespass.
The man remains in police custody for questioning.
The protest revolves around alleged claims made via Facebook that he was prosecuted for defending his home against a number of men with knives, bats and screwdrivers after stopping drug dealers who were operating on a street corner across from his home.
The man claims that as a result HE was arrested for violent disorder and prevented from returning home to his wife despite what he says were 18 witness statements from neighbours being used in evidence to support him.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said:
Quote"A 51-year-old man has today (17 June 2022) been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, a racially aggravated public order offence and aggravated trespass. GMP were made aware of aware of a man carrying out a protest on a crane near Ford Street, Salford, that started at about 5am on 13 June 2022 and ended peacefully at about midday today."
