“Firstly I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family of this man at this tragic time. We are working to provide them with support from specially trained family liaison officers as they come to terms with what has happened.
“We have been carrying out numerous lines of enquiry since the incident happened this morning so local residents may have noticed an increased police presence in the area. This is likely to continue throughout the day and I would urge anyone with concerns or information about what happened to approach one of the officers on patrol.
“We are treating this as a live murder investigation and any information that members of the public hold could prove crucial so if you think that you can help, then please contact us.”
Anybody with information should contact police on 0161 856 2491 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
