At this point, the Vauxhall was involved in a collision with a silver Ford Mondeo, which was travelling the other way.

Emergency services attended and an initial assessment suggested no serious injury but once the 51-year-old driver of the Mondeo had got to hospital, he was found to have internal bleeding, requiring immediate surgery. He remains in a stable condition.

The road was closed for a couple of hours, near to the Makro store, but all closures have now been lifted.

Police Constable Paul Shore of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“Fortunately, the driver of the Mondeo is doing well in hospital and beginning his recovery however, we still need help from the public to build a clearer picture of what has happened.

“Were you in the area at the time? Did you see the two silver vehicles or witness the collision itself? Do you have dashcam footage you can share with us?

“Whatever information you have, please get in touch.”
