Motorists are being advised to avoid a stretch of Liverpool Street between Weaste Lane/Road and Derby Road after a sink hole opened up in the middle of the road this morning.

The carriage way has been cordoned off in both directions as work is carried out to assess and repair it.

The recent heavy rains have eroded the road foundation causing a depression which has caused a small section of the road to collapse.

Drivers are being told to avoid the area with diversions in place on to Eccles New Road and Chandos Grove.

It is unknown as to when the carriageway will be reopened.
