  • PHOTOS OF ECCLES PRECINCT FROM 30 YEARS AGO BRING BACK MEMORIES

    Salford News

I was delighted to be contacted by Mark Griffin the Security Manager on Eccles Precinct who told me that an envelope of photographs showing Eccles Precinct in what looks like 1991 had been found in a drawer by the Centre Manager, Darren Askew.

Darren has kindly loaned them to us so that we can scan them and add to our photographic archive, which we are pleased to do but more importantly share them with you.

Memories came flooding back as shops, long gone such as Kingfisher, Play In, Hampsons Fish and Animal World, Timpsons, Liquor Zone, Silcocks, Coltons, News Centre, Greenwoods, Lunn Poly and many more have been captured by the anonymous photographer.

With the future of Eccles precinct looking to be changed forever with it's purchase by Salford Council this year for £4.15M this is a good time to wallow in a spot of nostalgia.

We shall be showing the photos over the next few days, you can't rush a good thing! but here is one of The Kingfisher Cafe now the site of Eccles Coffee Bar ran by Yvonne and Colin.
