London-based Q Developments is proposing to build a 29-storey building on the former regional HQ of McDonald's on Cross Lane, as part of the emerging £2.5 billion Salford Crescent masterplan.

Planning permission is being sought from Salford City Council to demolish the existing HQ to build a single block hosting up to 550 student beds across 182 flats.

Planning consultant DPP say that the Q Developments’ Cross Lane site is:

“Uniquely positioned to provide connected living accommodation close to a mainline rail station and Metrolink stop, as well as the central campus of Salford University.”

The development is part of a plan to overhaul the Crescent train station, with a potential delivery of an extension of the Metrolink along the A6 corridor between Salford Quays and the Crescent forming a transport hub in the area.
