PLAY BOOST FOR CADISHEAD'S 'LORDY' PARK TO START BY SUMMER

Plans to revamp the children’s play area at a popular Cadishead park will start in summer, Salford City Council has announced.

The council has been working with the Friends of Lordy Park for several months in drawing up the plans to make the site easier for wheelchair users and people with pushchairs. It currently does not meet modern access standards.

Councillor David Lancaster, lead member for environment and community safety, said:

“The Friends group are keen to see new play equipment for younger children and children with disabilities and better access so we have included their wishes in the scheme.

“There will be a wheelchair accessible roundabout, swings for parents and toddlers or children with disabilities, a swing for older children,  an adventure trail with a wobble board, trapeze walk and log steps and a climbing net and the plan is to cater for all ages from toddlers up to 14 years old. There will also be a new, safer, rubber surface underneath.

“The play area will be fenced off and a new path from the main path will make it easier for people with wheelchairs or pushchairs to reach it. The park is already popular with local families and this will give it a real boost.”

Final details on the funding are still pending, as grants and other funding options are being finalised.
