POLICE AUTHORISE STOP AND SEARCH POWERS AS THEY APPEAL FOR INFORMATION FOLLOWING A STABBING IN LITTLE HULTON

Police in Salford have authorised stop and search powers following a stabbing in Little Hulton, Worsley.

In response to this incident, police in Salford have implemented a Section 60 authority.

These temporary powers will allow police to stop and search people and vehicles to prevent serious violence, find weapons, or apprehend those suspected of carrying weapons. This will be in place until 8:30am today (Friday 24 March).

Shortly after 5:30pm yesterday (Thursday 23 March) Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a disturbance between a group of young men at Kenyon Way, Worsley, where a man was stabbed.

Emergency services attended and a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are believed to be life changing.

A 17 year old boy has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. He remains in police custody for questioning.

Initial enquiries suggest this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public but a scene will remain in place over night whilst officers continue with their investigation.

“We understand this incident may cause concern to the local community, but I’d like to reassure residents we have officers working around the clock to establish the circumstances.

“Extra officers have been deployed to the area to reassure the community. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to them, they are there to support you.

“I would urge members of the public who witnessed anything to please come forward and report this information to us. No matter how small the information may seem, it could prove vital to the investigation.”
